caryxxx Posted May 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2005 I'm being funny:D !!! But thought it'd be fun to pack a couple of telescopic fishing rods, sit with a couple of beers on a cabin balcony and 'cast out'. I've never actually been fishing before.......and have an inside cabin!!!!
Nessa1dc Posted May 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2005 That could be interesting. Make certain that you do the fishing at the end of the cruise. Can you imagine fishing earlier in the cruise and keeping the fish inside the cabin. Whewwwww!:D
Max Circus Posted May 19, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 19, 2005 Not from your balcony but I hear on some cruises that the CD stocks the main pool with salt-water bass. They have a "catch and release" contest to see who can bring in the most. Winner receives a $50 onboard credit and gets to have the head chef prepare the largest bass tableside for dinner. gail811 Posted May 19, 2005 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2005 On a Carnival cruise a few years ago we were in Progreso. A crew member on another ship was fishing out of a porthole with just fishing line and caught a fish! We got a good laugh out of that and wondered if that is where they got their "catch of the day"! Hucc Posted May 19, 2005 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2005 you can only do this if you balcony is on the lowest tier :) otherwise your neighbors below may get a fish hook... and if that happens, you should buy them a beer B)
caryxxx Posted May 19, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted May 19, 2005 Would it be best to wait until the ship is out at sea or could you start while still in port???:)
barbgazz Posted May 19, 2005 #7 Share Posted May 19, 2005 Especially when you fire up your grill and cook them on the spot, yum.
emcemt Posted May 19, 2005 #8 Share Posted May 19, 2005 Fishing is allowed from all balcony staterooms as long as you pay the $10.00 bait surcharge.
Stircrzy Posted May 19, 2005 #9 Share Posted May 19, 2005 I prefer the casting net. I just hang it off of the balcony and let it gather fish as we sail. I sell my catch while ashore and use the money in the casino.
emeraldcity Posted May 19, 2005 #10 Share Posted May 19, 2005 The net is definitely poor form ... too much chance of catching a dolphin. Dolphin poaching can result in being put ashore at the next port of call.
Stircrzy Posted May 19, 2005 #11 Share Posted May 19, 2005 I only use those excluder nets... ...and I'm not the one who sold all of those dolphins to Xcaret and Chankanab.
Max Circus Posted May 20, 2005 #12 Share Posted May 20, 2005 Fishing is allowed from all balcony staterooms as long as you pay the $10.00 bait surcharge. It was so much better before they started with the surcharge for the bait. They just want to nickle and dime us for everything. First Johnny Rockets and now this!!! Does anyone know if RCI is preventing you from bringing your own pole? I heard there was an additional fee if you brought your own pole. Also heard some ships are scanning for these before you board and removing from your luggage. Anyone know?
jimbulger Posted May 20, 2005 #13 Share Posted May 20, 2005 this is from rccl's official guide "we are pleased to offer our balcony suite guests the oppertunity to fish from their stateroom. As we our trying to "save the waves" we only allow the use of biodegradable worms and bait. We therefore eill only allow you to use bait purchased on board. You may use your own pole provided you pay us the $10.00 hookage fee that we charge"
Rare island lady Posted May 20, 2005 #14 Share Posted May 20, 2005 Hmmm...fishing from an inside cabin. What size "groupers" are you angling for? Probably some interesting fish swimming down the hallway in the wee hours of the night! :D Pondering on what "bait" to use...hmmm.... Ahh!! I know!! Just bait one of those beers on the end of your line and toss it out there. Should have a sure catch! Real in 'em!! :D :D Cheers!

I'll make sure to have a copy of this to show the people in cabins below my balcony who will complain when I'm fishing at 3AM. That's the best time to get the biggest fish. I'll also save the receipt from the hookage fee. Thanks for the info.
TheBeachBears Posted May 20, 2005 #16 Share Posted May 20, 2005 Why didn't you use the fishin' chairs on the back of the boat, I hear they have some great game fish in cabin 9256. Just make sure you strap in tight.
Guest OBAYbee Posted May 20, 2005 #17 Share Posted May 20, 2005 It just occurred to me... maybe the foul odor people have complained about on some of the RCCL cruise ships is the dead fish left in cabins that were not cooked after catching them!......It's a thought!!! ;)

boatbunny Posted May 20, 2005 #22 Share Posted May 20, 2005 Oh, I can see the new threads now..... I was sitting on my balcony reading my book, and the next thing I know, I've got a fish hook in the eye! The cabin next to us put a little kids swim pool filled with water out on their balcony to keep their caught fish fresh. Well, they caught these fish that are only common to the Caribbean known as "screamers", those damn fish kept me up all night! Do you have to have your fishing pole in a suitcase or can you just carry it on? How many can you bring? If you want to take your fish home with you after the cruise, does it need a passport? Does anyone know how much they charge to stuff the fish? Which days do they stuff fish? My cruise was ruined! My DH spent the whole week fishing off our balcony. And of course, When we went up to the pool area all the lounge chairs were gone, they had all been moved to the stern with people fishing!
EscapeFromConnecticut Posted May 20, 2005 #23 Share Posted May 20, 2005   We will NEVER book with RCI again. Our entire party was so TERRIBLY disappointed on our last cruise --- absolutely no bass!!!!! None!! We all fished for at least a half hour, but RCI's nickel-and-diming has gotten so bad that we couldn't catch anything.:( Baby Sara and little Connor were up half the night crying, you know. RCI should be ashamed of themselves for making our little ones cry!! Worse yet, they REFUSED any compensation. Outrageous. You would think the least they could offer is a few free shore excursions, some casino credits and mabye 70 percent off a future cruise. But that unspeakably rude girl at the purser's desk wouldn't listen to reason at all .... she kept making excuses about how their contract specifies "no guarantee of catching fish." What a disgrace! I'll bet Carnival knows how to treat its customers better!

klingoncruiser Posted May 20, 2005 #25 Share Posted May 20, 2005 How many CC will it take to catch a fish? 1 to hook the fish 3 to post how to lift it to the deck 2 to give a long review on the whole thing. 6 to question the use of live bait vs artificial 1 troll to grumble about ranch steak 8 to offer helpful hints on how to fix the fish for dinner 3 to tell how many they caught last year on Carnival 4 to hog any near by chairs before the fish is even hooked. I am sure I missed a bunch.... I could use some help.... :D
