Another tipping thread, LOL!

Its a shame the (search box) feature here on Cruise Critic

does not get used more often. I typed in 'Steakhouse Tipping'

Here is a small handful of the results.

Problem with all those links are they are all outdated, stating the steakhouse fee is $30.

$5 bucks, really??? Come on... I don't think that matters at all..

The price might be outdated, but the question is not.

The bigger picture is, more people need to at least try the search feature. So much clutter would be avoided, especially when it comes to tipping threads, they never turn out well.

Sure. Maybe the tip went from (X) to (X+$5).

YOU WILL NOTE THAT no one HERE KNOWS HOW MUCH any portion of the surcharge is anything. They are ALL guesses.

Then they should lock all the threads, cause all the questions have been asked and answered.

But that's probably on the low end of a meal for two (maybe even party of one) at a first class steakhouse in Chicago, like Charlie Trotters, or in NYC, like Sparks or Peter Lugars. Tip not included (and 20-25% expected).

Oh absolutely. You could barely get a piece of meat for that in a the places you mention. My husband was a chef in NYC for several years in the beginning of his career, I am always being schooled on NYC restaurants, lol

But that is not the kind of meal we are talking about, on a cruise ship where your MDR meal is already included in the price of your fare, etc etc.

There is a 15% tip built into the price. No more is required, however, at a fine restaurant on land, I usually tip a minimum of 20% and often more.

On the cruise ship, we tip an extra 20% on top of the $35pp and think it is well worth it.

So your 5% is multiplied by what?

Just tip what you feel like tipping. Carnival says the gratuity is included, you could let it go at that. I don't remember what my DH tipped on our last cruise, I think between $10 and $20. That was up to him and his S&S card. If you google tip and gratuity you will find some answers stating that the two are different. So...just tip what you feel like tipping.

We're on the Pride in November as well, the first week. If that's not your week...we'll save some steak for you.
We are going on the pride this November and the 6 of us would like to try the steak house. So my question is what a proper tip for 6 of us dining.
There is no correct answer for this, some will never add a tip and others will. Each person has to do what they feel is right. I always add 25% to the bill because the service has been outstanding.

We havent done the steakhouse yet but being a bartender /food server heres my opinion

Its $35 PP with a tip included ,What I would do is tip an extra $20 per couple, your servers will be very happy
We have always left an additional tip...15% on top of the $35 is only approximately $10 for a couple. This is what we typically leave. With the calibre of service we have always received, it is worth it. $80 for a great meal...worth every penny! :)
We also tend to leave an additional $5 per person gratuity for the excellent service we have always received in Carnival's steakhouses. However, if the service was just fair, we would not leave an additional amount since the tip is already included.
