What's wrong with the on board water? We only drink on board water and never pay for bottled water.

Different cruise lines provide various amneties and since this is our first Silversea cruise it will be fun to compare. When on Celebrity Century, we loved the cold wet towels and bottled/chilled water after returning from a shore-ex. Oceania just provided bottled water and Disney......I don't even remember. Just glad to know there will be to bottled water and hopefully as we leave as well as when we return.

Do they still have bottles of water at the gangway to take on shore?

Thanks everyone for your replies concerning water at the gangway. Since our next cruise is up the Amazon, I think we will really need water to take along.

Chilled and room temperature bottle water is available just before the gangway/security (near the elevators, typically)...even in the Baltics!

Just fyi, each ship has a big de-salinization plant deep down in the hull. It produces the potable water that's used when the ship is at sea for more than 3 or 4 days (and unable to refill its water tanks from ports).

Both the ship's water and bottled water are plentiful all over the ship, and you can get your cabin attendant to get you bottled water for free, no worries.
