FLL - MIA Rental Car Questions

We are experienced crusiers and always go the day before. We have always rented a car from the airport and then driven to a hotel for the night before and then dropped the car off in the morning and taken a shuttle to the port....sometimes we have had 3 cars and 15 people and we have gone to the port first and dropped off the luggage and family and then returned the cars.

 

We are flying into FLL for a cruise out of Miami and then flying out of Fort Meyers on the way back. I want to rent 2 cars again in FLL and then drop off in Miami. Last time we used Enterprise and they had a shuttle to the POM. My new employer has a great discount plan with Avis and Budget and I understand they don't do shuttles to the POM but the locations are close to the port. Can you drop off the family and luggage and then return the 2 cars to the downtown location and then just share a taxi over to the ship? Does the Avis and Budget airport locations have a shuttle or nothing in that area at all. Is it difficult to get a car from the downtown locations on the way back....we will need 2 on the day we return and then drop them off in Fort Meyers before our flight home.

You can drop everyone off with bags while you go and return the cars. Avis has a downtown location very close to POM (about a $10-12 cab ride back to the port).

 

You should be able to reverse the trip after your cruise - two of you go ahead to pick up the rental cars while the rest wait with your bags.

 

If you have cars reserved at the Avis downtown location for the day your cruise returns you should have no problem getting them. If you find a better rate for Budget just figure the $25 cab fare to MIA into your plans. Good luck! :)
