Refund of onboard credit

We travelled on The Breeze this summer, we had between 2 cabins $400 onboard credit & when we got on board there was a further $47 when we asked guest services they advised only the $47 was refundable, she assured us it would be paid back onto the card we had registered.

I've been checking my credit card for the credit & this has not been credited, I contacted Carnival & they advise me I was given the refund by cash? Which is untrue. I thought the ship was cashless so never scrutinised the receipt I signed to see how it would be refunded.....I'm awaiting them investigating

Has anyone had cash refund for onboard credit?

We also left a few $'s on the card & when they sent us copies of our spending regarding the above issue someone had charged a drink to our room after we left the ship...bit naughty......

I'm a little confused by your post.

So, at the beginning of the cruise,,, you knew you had $400 OBC?

When you actually boarded the ship,,, you had $447??

OK, That $47 was probably in the form of a credit for port fees refund.

So,,,, all the time you spent on the ship,, you only spent $400 and you're waiting for the refund of $47???

Or all told, you spent more than the $447 and you're under the impression that the cruiseline still owes you $47.

Your ship board account started at ($447.00)

Lets say after tips, excursions, drinks, souvineers, casino, etc. You spent $1000 ??? your final S&S bill would have been $553 charged to your credit card.

If you had only spent $400 then they owe you $47 and they cut a check and leave it under your door on the final night.

They never refund OBC to my knowledge to your credit card.. so Id quit waiting for that to happen.

It is either a check they leave under the door or in your mailbox... or cash if you request it in person before they close out your account.

I was surprised they would attach a check to your account and leave it on the outside of your door myself.. seemed a tad unsafe. I only got a small refund the one time.. but still surprised.

the S&S print out would say if the $47 was refundable or not if you looked at it.

We had a drink charged to our account after we left, it turns out it was from the mini bar items which they inventory after you disembark. As we always ask our room steward to remove these as soon as we board , I called and they removed the charge and it was credited back to my credit account.

Yes we only spent $382. ( Not that I need to explain but we had kids in other stateroom, they don't drink, gamble & we did private excursions ) a day before we left we visited guest services as we wanted to check the position of our acct, we knew we wouldn't spend it all so she explained we could have $47 back as refundable & I have receipt to show, I never checked the receipt just signed like getting a drink, she'd explained it would go back onto my card. I am 100% she did not give us cash..

On the final morning did you get a final copy of your S&S bill?

If so what did you do with it?

I bet you tossed it away right along with the attached refund check.

We had refundable OBC and it was given to us by check on the final morning. Nothing was credited back to our original booking card.

I agree with the above 2. I didn't think a business could credit back to a credit card for a purchase not made on the card. On board account is a separate thing than purchase of the cruise, so since there actually wasn't an onboard purchase made (the OP didn't exceed their non-refundable portion of OBC), they wouldn't be able to credit something back.

The only time this ever happened to me, I just asked for the cash on the last night because I didn't want to deal with depositing and waiting for a US check to clear at my Canadian bank.

Sorry I'm not doing very well explaining, the receptionist said she would refund our card, I have now found the receipts which say cash refund, but she never did give us the cash, which we are 100% certain about, especially as we're British & cruising in Europe what would we have done with the dollars? other than bring them home.

Carnival are still looking into this but I'm sure we won't get it back. It's not a great deal of money but we just feel a little cheated ( I'm sure the till would have been wrong that night unless it was pocketed ) this coupled with the point that someone accessed our account after we left took it to near zero with a drink makes me wonder if this happens a lot, I realised its only a few dollars but we can't be the only cabin that leaves a few dollars in credit on the account.
