JaniceB,

Hope you don't mind my chiming in. We sailed to Grand Turk in April and we did a bus tour of the island. Very interesting, though a bumpy ride. Our guide was great and we made a few stops and bought trinkets. It's an interesting place, and I'm wishing I could retire there. Wild ponies, burros and dogs, oh my!

Sorry about the delay - I wrote most of the review the other day and when I went to preview it, CC logged me out & I lost it. Then my intention was to write it yesterday but woke up with a stomach bug so I was unable. :( I will get started now. :)

I would be interested to hear what you did on Grand Turk.

We rented a Jeep from Nathan in Grand Turk. It was great to be able to see more that what was in the port area. We cruised around, went to the Lighthouse, the old Conch World and took a chance at a bunch of dead ends. We ended the day visiting the new casino, having lunch and a few local beers at the Local Village Bar and shopping at the pier. I would do this again if I go back.

A little about us - we are in our 30's, I am a nurse and he is a truck driver. He has 2 kids (6 & 7) that we did not bring with us. I was all set to take them on a cruise in April until we were on this cruise together. I think we are going to wait until they are older. Kudos to the parents that bring their little kids on cruises, it is not for us.

We live in Upstate NY and decided on this ship and itinerary because my BF would not fly. We are about 4 hours from the cruise pier in NYC. Luckily a couple from our roll call asked us to carpool and we saved about $200!! Thanks Connie & Angelo!!

We left aroung 6am and met up with our new friends at about 7:30am and were at the pier by 10:30am. We dropped our luggage off, went through security and we were brought to a VIP check in line with no one waiting. I'm assuming they did this because the other lines were huge and they probably wanted to get people through faster, because I am no VIP. We both used birth certificates to check in and it took about 2 minutes. So glad I didn't spend the $ to rush my renewal and his fist one - using a BC was so issue.

We got on the ship and went to Lido to have some food and explore a little. I do remember one of the pools was not open. It was a beautiful day (high 80's) and perfect to hang out on Lido in NYC in October!!!

We booked about a month before sailing and ended up with an extended balcony (8149). This was a nice room and I swear the shower was larger than I've had before. The bathroom had some samples of toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner. The balcony was great and I don't think my BF will sail again without one. He loved being out there, watching the water for flying fish LOL

Our room steward was Alfred and he was wonderful!! He made sure we had our ice bucket filled twice a day and was always there if I had any requests.

I wish I was going to be able to do a day by day account of what we did but I just can't remember specifics. I will touch on things and tell you what we did in ports and my opinion of stuff - hope that is ok! :)

We were able to get into our cabin at 1:30pm and like I said - it was a great room but the Lido is right above and it would get very noisy with what sounded like chairs dragging across the floor. So keep that in mind if you are on the 8th floor on Miracle. We also had a family of 6 in the 2 rooms next to us and they had the partitions opened on their balconies and the 4 kids (under 12) were out there constantly - even at 1am!!! But none of that could ruin our cruise!!!

We went to Muster Drill around 3:15pm and it's nice that you don't have to bring your life jacket but it was even better on the Dream where you were able to go to the dining rooms and not have to stand on top of each other in the hot sun. Our roll call had an informal M&G at the Odyssey Bar after Muster so we headed there and I was unable to find anyone at first but eventually I started to recognize people and just went up and introduced myself. I have to say that this was the best bunch of people I have ever met on a roll call. It was like fate putting us together. Amazing people!!!

We originally had late seating due to it being the only thing available when we booked and I tried to change it a few days before sailing when YTD opened up but when we checked in, it still said late seating. We decided to skip dinner the first night and we switched to YTD the next afternoon. SO glad we did - we sat with friends from roll call all week and it totally made the trip!

What do the men wear on formal night/ Can they wear khaki pants and a dresss shirt without a suit jacket?

My BF did not wear a suit or tux or even a tie. It is acceptable to not do this but I know the next time he will pack atleast a shirt & tie because he felt out of place without a tie on for elegant night.

I am going to jump into the ports.

In Grand Turk we rented a Jeep from Nathan. It cost $80 and he charged my credit card at the time of the reservation. I was happy about this becuase it was 1 less thing I had to worry about saving cash for. We got off the ship, walked through the cruise center, turned left and they were waiting in an SUV down the street. I signed a paper, she gave me a map and told us we either had to replace the gas we used or give them $20 when we returned the Jeep. If you plan on doing this, be sure to bring beverages with you - it was so hot out & we were glad to have brought some drinks for the ride. The Jeep did have AC though.

We found some of our own conch shells but we stopped to talk to these guys and they sold us 2 huge ones for $5 and then he gave me a smaller 1 for free!
