Super Bowl XLVII on the Diamond for February 2013?

Was just wondering if Super Bowl XLVII will be shown on the Diamond Princess for 2013, and if so, would it be on at the 10:30AM time on Feb 4, 2013 which would correspond to the 5:30PM CST on Feb 3rd live broadcast in the US? The ship will be in Hobart, Tasmania at that time & I would assume most all passengers (including us!!) will be off doing something wonderful on shore all day.

DH is curious as to whether they may record it for later broadcast on MUTS or what. Thanks in advance if anyone might know from past experiences.

Smooth Sailing! :):)

It'll be broadcast on Princess ships. Whether it's live, what time, etc. is probably unknown until you board and check the schedule. It's also dependent on the ship being able to receive a satellite signal which is never guaranteed. I don't think I've ever taken a cruise when it wasn't out of service for hours or days.

We were on the Island in 2011 and they had the superbowl live on MUTS and on the screen in the theater. They set up a food line on the lido deck by the pool for the viewers as well as food in the HC. The bar waiters were very busy as you might imagine. Some watched the game from the hottubs. We were in the Caribbean however.

You will be in the southern hemisphere. I am not sure if the game will be on the satellites that service that part of the world. They may be able to get it off the internet but speed could be a problem. The superbowl in the US and Canada may be a big deal but not so in the rest of the world. Good luck.

We were cruising south of Valparaiso Chile for the 2012 Super Bowl on the Star Princess. As others have mentioned, it was on MUTS and on multiple screens set up in the Princess theatre where they had popcorn, hot dogs, nachos and other goodies at the back for folks to indulge in. The casino also had a square pool and I was lucky enough to win the final score for $500! So unlike other sporting events, you should definitely plan on being able to watch the Super Bowl on your cruise.

Edited because I realized that we are on the same cruise and this will be our second Super Bowl outside of the US. I'm sure we can meet up to have a party, but it does stink that we'll be in port. Maybe they will do a delay?

Hello AZbirdmom!!

We are hoping for a delay on the game as well. Wouldn't ya' know we have sea days on either side of the 4th of Feb (when it should be broadcast onboard - satellite permitting). Would love to get together & party with several new friends, but no way are we missing a lovely day in Hobart to watch the game at 10:30 in the morning :D.

We have had similar broadcast experiences (as you describe on the Star) on some previous cruises, but have not been in the Southern Hemisphere for the Big Game before. We correspond with some friends living in Australia & they definitely get the Super Bowl on TV over there, but I was wondering about the ship's broadcast time because it is a port day.

Are you staying in Auckland pre-cruise or in Sydney post cruise? Where are you from in AZ?? We have friends in Tuscon & Prescott. I'll look for you on the Roll Call Board.

Thanks!!

Nancy

Thanks to all of you who took time out to reply. We will hope for the best once on board. I'm quite sure none of the teams I usually pull for will be participating this year, but we both love to pick a team and root them on. And what could be more fun than doing so with a whole group of new-found friends.

Smooth Sailing to everyone! :)
