ATM Charges While On Board

For my upcoming cruise I was going to just take a couple hundred in cash and use an ATM in San Juan but it turns out Chase doesn't have branches/ATMs in San Juan. :( I know I can get cash back at stores and/or use another bank's ATM, which I will probably do, but I'm wondering what Royal's ATM charges are. Does anyone know?

Thanks,

$6 at the ATM per transaction + your bank fees. 3% to withdraw money at the casino for"gambling". And the ATM frequently runs out of cash.

Thanks! Usually I carry a fair amount of cash when traveling but the last time I went through a TSA checkpoint I was separated from my carry on (I went through the x-ray thing and the guy in front of me had stuff in his pockets and had to be re-x-rayed) and by the time I got through another passenger was picking through my bin so I don't want to chance having my cash walked off with. When you get a withdrawal from the casino I assume they charge it to your on board account, right? Or do they do a credit card cash transaction?

When I gamble on cruises I just charge my cabin on the cruise card in the slot machine. They charge my cabin with no fee. I trust this has not changed. If you need to cash then you just cash out of play card and the cashier. I will pay down my account at the end of the cruise if I still have cash on hand.

No need to use the ATM or the cashier because they charge you several fees. This approach has always troubled me as my sister did have a problem with the fee charges once when she used an ATM.

I also carry travelers’ cheques for any emergencies. I get them for free so it is a win, win, transaction

Hope this helps.

I don't put my stuff through the TSA scanner until I'M ready to go thru the metal detector or body scanner. And, I wait until my things have cleared before I walk thru....that way, my stuff doesn't run the chance of popping out the backside of their x-ray machine...and me and my "bin" come thru at about the same time. Yeah...sometimes the agents try to hurry you thru, but stand your ground...their timetable isn't worth losing your things!

We just bring the cash we need and avoid fees altogether!

You can also get cash out of an ATM at the airport after you go through security. If there is not a Chase ATM, you may have a fee, but it would probably be much less in your home airport than in a tourist airport like San Juan...and definitely less than the ship.

That being said, the option if you gamble on slots to use your card to fund sounds good to. I have funded my card that way (not for the ability to get cash fee less, but to gamble..). I also have not received any fees by doing so.

I can say that I also have experienced issues with the ships ATMs over the years. Beside the large fee, the connection with my bank hasn't been the best and it has flagged my debit card where they then declined all purchase attempts until I called--which isn't easy when you're out of the country. This hasn't always been the case, by any means...but something to consider if you are only taking a debit card.

Oh, I don't play slots (just blackjack) and had no idea one could get cash from the slot machines, that may work. But even better, thanks for reminding me about travelers checks. I haven't used them in years but will find out what the fees are and if they are less than 6%, I'll go that route. Thanks!

I'm with you now, no more putting my stuff through before the scanner is clear. What surprised me the most was it was a passenger, not as TSA agent, picking through my bin! When I saw him he was picking my laptop up and I started yelling "hey, that is my stuff" and a couple of TSA agents turned to look at where I was heading and the guy dropped my laptop and took off. I asked the TSA agent about it and they said he was probably confused:mad:
