Travel Insurance?

Does travel insurance cover medical treatment on the cruise or in other ports. Not sure our insurance would cover a problem outside of US borders and have heard some treatment and cost horror stories. Would appreciate some advice.

Travel insurance would cover any medical expenses incurred on the ship and at a port. It will also include coverage for medical evacuation from the ship, if you need to be taken off the ship by helicopter, or if you need to be taken to another hospital on the mainland. Those evac charges can go as high as $30,000.

Not all of the plans out there cover medical and medical evacuation expenses. If you need that coverage be sure that it's included and under what circumstances it applies before you buy.

To ensure I have medical coverage abroad is one of the reasons I buy travel insurance, but check to make sure it is covered by the particular policy you are looking at. Not all of them cover medical insurance.

Also, there are often limits on medical expenses which are stated in the policies. You really need to read the terms, RCL offered me insurance without sending me the policy to read! The policies can be very different too, so it might pay to look at a few different policies from different insurance carriers.
