Canadian Cruisers?

For Mother's Day, the hubby gave me tickets to a caribbean cruise (Mariner, 6/27/04). I have all necessary docs, however he doesn't. He was born in Cananda and it seems he was able to use his Baptismal Certifcate to register for schools, driver's license, etc... We are not even sure if his parents ever mailed in his Canadian Registration at birth. Now we're scrambling to find any Birth Certifcate issued to him, but have been told this may take months! Have any of you Canadian travelers experienced this? What other forms OR Docs will prove citizenship? We're in a pinch. Thanks so much

Either a birth Certificate or a Canadian Passport. If he was born in Quebec then his bapismal papers may be good. Best check with imigration as rules have changed with 9/11. You need the birth Certificate to get the passport. It will take about 8 weeks if he goes to a Canadian Consulet.

Dose he have a green card to work in States. My Sister-in-Law has used this to prove things too. Check with your cruise line as well.

Good luck. Prices vary depending on Province of birth as well for the cost.

Where was your husband born? Check with the local authorities there - his birth must have been registered, even if he was born on a farm (as my DH was in the 1940's). You shouldn't have that much trouble getting a birth certificate. Apply for a passport as soon as you can - that's the best document you'll ever have for travelling, no matter where you go.

Smooth Sailing!

Thank you both for your responses. My DH was born in Ontario in 1969. He is a native american indian and has always resided on the reserve (which happens to be the quebec province)He has his Baptismal Cert. from the quebec church, but he have been told that this is not accepted. We are hopeful that his birth was registered and we will be able to get a copy before we sail (less than 4 weeks now... yikes!) Thanks for giving us hope that it may have been automatically registered when he was born. Now a days.. its up to the parent to send in the form for registration.

In Ontario, there is a huge backlog to have birth certificates issued. If you need one in a hurry, I would strongly suggest you contact the member of parliament for the town of your husband's birth for assistance. You can locate the name and email address by doing a Goggle search. The regular chanels aren't going to work in time for you.

All hopes are not lost! My husband and I just went through the same ordeal. DH needed a new passport (we are leaving on June 18) and being champs at procrastinating, we (or should I say he) just started tackling the paperwork a few days ago. A birth certificate may be issued "urgently" in the province of Quebec in just a few days. Once you have that, it's the same thing for your passport, which can be issued in as little as two days (for extra money, of course). Don't worry! You'll be just fine and have a great cruise!

The issuance of a passport in Ontario is quick. It's the birth certificate that's the problem. Our office accepts the applications, however we forward them to Sudbury Ont for provincial processing. It is taking many months for issuance. The only way to expedite this process is to get intervention from a member of provincial parliament.

In Ontario,if you need a birth certicate or passport fast. You go in person to the different offices and if you can prove by airline ticket or something from your TA that you are travelling, you can get your birth certicate or passport with a extra charge of $20-35 within a couple of days. That is what friends of mine have done and within a couple of days received birth cerifcate (right now there is a 6 month backlog for birth certicates) and they also did that for their passports and received them within the week.
