debcruising Posted November 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2012 My Eurodam Cruise leaves Sat., 11/17. Is there a separate check in line for Suites? My category is SS. What is the BEST time to check in to assure a short/no line? I live 30 minutes from the port, so luckily, traveling there is no issue. Thanks in advance to all you cruisers who know the "inside-outs" of HAL! Happy Sailing!
scamper Posted November 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2012 At every home port I have sailed from on HAL, there is a separate desk for suites. However, that check-in desk may be only for Penthouses and Deluxe Verandahs. I usually book the DVS unless I book too late and they're full. If you don't get a definite answer on the boards, call HAL and ask.
sail7seas Posted November 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 14, 2012 Yes, there is a Suite Check in at Port Everglades. When you enter the terminal, there are shore side workers who can direct you. Just tell them your cabin number. Suite check in is for penthouse and deluxe veranda. I have seen them process four star mariner through there as well if there isn't a line of deluxe veranda people. It's a "suite" in name only in the sense it does not qualify for Deluxe or Penthouse Suite amenities like the special check-in line, Neptune Lounge access, and so on. peaches from georgia Posted November 14, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2012 HAL calls to many cabins "suites" and it is very confusing, especially to new pax. Often the SY, SS, and other so-called suites think they qualify for the special Deluxe and Penthouse Suite amenities, understandably so, but they do not. In most every cases I have seen '4' stars are included in that line of deluxe veranda and penthouse, here in SD. That can make the line quite long and especially on the lengthier cruises where there are lots of '4' stars embarking with the S or SA and PH customers. Sounds like Port Everglades has a better plan. It always amazes me the different procedures that are used in different ports. You would think Hal would have set protocols for embarkation but guess not. Typhoon1 Posted November 14, 2012 #7 Share Posted November 14, 2012 PS, SA, SB and SC are provided with a dedicated check in line.
cmdchiefthom Posted November 14, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 14, 2012 As you arrive at the luggage drop off, by around 11:00 AM or so, a line begins to form at the entrance to the terminal, and all passengers have to go through the line to the doorway where you present your documents, and are given a S button that identifies you as a suite passenger. There is also a placard that has the cabin numbers displayed for suite check-in at the terminal entrance. Once you pass through security, an attendant will direct you to the suite check in line where usually the process takes a matter of a few minutes. You are then cleared to go directly to the boarding line and go through the obligatory photo op as you head to the gangway.;)
Krazy Kruizers Posted November 14, 2012 #9 Share Posted November 14, 2012 Once you enter the building, there is a separate check-in for the PS, SA, SB, SC, S, handicapped people and 4 star Mariners. All others go to another part of the terminal to check-in. The worst part of check-in for the above groups that I mentioned -- those check-in lines do not have the ID cards for the handicapped people or the 4 star Mariners. The check-in people have to constantly go to the other check-in area and hunt those ID cards. The lines now move slowly there. We got caught in this mess last November 2011. We were numbers 3 and 4 to enter the terminal and go through security. When we went to the Deluxe Suite check-in there were already about 2 dozen people there!! We enquired as to how they could get ahead of us -- seems that they got to the terminal around 10:30 and were escorted to the back door of the terminal and taken to the Deluxe Suite check-in no matter what their cabin category was. We were in line for over nearly 3/4 's of an hour. By the time we got upstairs there were no seats left. Embarkation was late as the ship had just returned from Europe. Seeing HAL's Terminal 26 has been remodeled, we don't know what changes may have been made to the check in counters. We have been directed around the back and checked in there sometimes. We've done that for years but it well could be a different set up now. We'll be seeing/hearing soon enough as they are just about ready to start using it.
