elgato2 Posted November 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2012 For those who have done the martini tasting..I'm looking forward to this on my upcoming cruise.. Do you have to sample all four at one sitting or can you use it throughout the week? I'm not much of a drinker but love martinis (in small doses)..I'd like to sample one or two one day and then perhaps one or two on another day before dinner..then order a regular size if I like it;) This may be a stupid question but I'm curiious and with only 20 days left to go..I'm thinking of EVERYTHING! wmjrdn4ever Posted November 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2012 All four at one sitting - they work out to be about 2 "real" drinks.
pokerbob Posted November 19, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 19, 2012 They are all served at once. you might want to do it with a friend.
kjunea Posted November 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2012 My DH and I sampled them together. He picked 2 and I picked 2. Later in the week, we shared again!
kc5grw Posted November 19, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 19, 2012 DW and I did all 8 on the menu on our Triumph cruise in July. That way we got to try them all. I got more than my share though cause there were one or 2 she did not like.
funinthesun1964 Posted November 19, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Defintely do the martini tasting. you do all 4 at once. At first, I shared with DH - so we shared all of them to find out our favorites. We liked them, so we did another four. We always want to do this on our cruises, but for some reason time runs out and we get involved in other things. I keep saying, this cruise, I want to do that again... We did our martini tasting on the Victory. :)
FrogsMcGee Posted November 19, 2012 #7 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Martini tasting is a scheduled thing on the capers or you can do it any time the martini bar is open?
wmjrdn4ever Posted November 19, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Martini tasting is a scheduled thing on the capers or you can do it any time the martini bar is open? On our Valor cruise in September, the Martini tasting was advertised almost every night. It started either just before or just after the Friends of Dorothy meeting that was held in the same location. They did advertise in the Fun Times and in big signs in the walkway.

Tbay-eh Posted November 19, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Thanks for the info...Dh will be with me..(doesn't like martinis)He'll have to learn to like them..or be willing to carry me to dinner..2 would put me on my A**!:o Seriously, they are not as large as regular martinis, nor are they as strong - I am sure even a non-seasoned drinker can handle it. We did it twice on a b2b (sharing) and tipped him nicely the first time. Every time we walked by the bar (ours was on deck 5 - bar beyond the coffee bar) he would call us over to sample a new one he came up with (free) - of course we tipped again so he really looked out for us. We probably got a lot more than our moneys worth. We also do the wine tasting - now that is worth it - was $10 now $15 I think and held usually the 3rd or 4th day at noon. Enjoy. CapeCodCruiser Posted November 19, 2012 #12 Share Posted November 19, 2012 We did it on the Valor a few weeks ago. DH & I shared. You can do it any time the wine/martini bar is open. They are not as strong as a traditional martini as they use a lot of liqueurs not gin or vodka. The Chipotle one off the hook!
GB Chicago Posted November 20, 2012 #13 Share Posted November 20, 2012 The wine bar on the Destiny had it every night. We met great people there and eventually shared all of our martini's.
yng.cruzan.cple Posted November 20, 2012 #14 Share Posted November 20, 2012 Is the martini tasting on every ship? And how much does it cost?
cyntil8ing Posted November 20, 2012 #15 Share Posted November 20, 2012 They were less than half the size of the normal martinis. DH and I tried all of them on our Freedom cruise over the summer. They were not overpowering at all.
travlngrl1996 Posted November 20, 2012 #16 Share Posted November 20, 2012 I believe the price was $17 per person. My husband and I both bought it and got to taste all of them We enjoyed it and look forward to doing it again...

suezyq50 Posted November 20, 2012 #18 Share Posted November 20, 2012 We also did two rounds each on a different night. Yummy, but not strong. Enjoy it.
kc5grw Posted November 20, 2012 #19 Share Posted November 20, 2012 I think the strength really depends on the bar tender. I know when we did ours they were plenty strong. Here's the recipes for the martini's they serve for the tasting.

Tbay-eh Posted November 20, 2012 #24 Share Posted November 20, 2012 Ah this sounds awesome!! What were everyones favorites!? I found most of them way too sweet for my taste - I am a rye and water drinker normally so I tend towards the tarter ones - any one with cranberry juice is my choice but I like the Classic the best
kc5grw Posted November 20, 2012 #25 Share Posted November 20, 2012 The Spicy Chipotle was probably my fav.
