Splinter Posted May 31, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted May 31, 2005 Excuse me, but I have no plan to frequent your blog, so don't tell me what I "should" do! This is the site I am interested in, and we are not interested in booking trips or purchasing other products through your company. Your blog is thinnly veiled advertising, which I thought was banned on this site. Timetravel, of course you can post this information anywhere you want to post it. It is public information available to all on the internet. It does not belong to anyone or to any site.

muskrat897 Posted May 31, 2005 #8 Share Posted May 31, 2005 I think personal attacks on this board are ill-advised. If you don't like her posts, just ignore them.
cjh Posted June 6, 2005 #9 Share Posted June 6, 2005 Court decides ships have to comply to ADA! I'm hoping that the ruling will also apply to cabins that only have 2 beds and that it will have to be like hotels. I should would like to only pay 3rd and 4th fare instead of 2 full cabin fares. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/06/AR2005060600578.html
Pudgesmom Posted June 6, 2005 #10 Share Posted June 6, 2005 will the ruling apply to things like tender accessibility? How can the seas be controlled? Beth
Ken Posted June 6, 2005 #11 Share Posted June 6, 2005 I think the key phrase is "reasonable accommodation". That describes what the cruise lines are required to make to comply with the ADA.
Queenie2 Posted June 6, 2005 #12 Share Posted June 6, 2005 Actually the details are up to the circuit court (where it was remanded for disposition). It will be interesting to see how the lower court deals with barrier-removal and if it "interferes with the internal affairs of cruise ships". I don't expect great things as that court ruled that the ADA didn't apply to foreign cruise ships in the first place, so I expect they will take a very wide berth in requiring specific structural access modifications. I doubt they will go so far as requiring certain bed configurations as Justice Kennedy implied that "requiring certain cabins to be accessible" was indeed "interfering with the internal affairs of cruise ships." (and not required under Title III) I've read the decision several times and even in the 3 dissenting opinions there doesn't appear to be much agreement. Tough issue. Of course, I blogged about it today http://emerginghorizons.com/blog/2005/06/and-verdict-is-in-kind-of.html for those of you interested, you can download a PDF of the ruling here http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/06june20051130/www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/04pdf/03-1388.pdf Candy
