Hi CD, we had Christmas day last year on the Destiny when the Island Escape was cancelled again for winter after taking our booking.

But that aside we did have a good time and the crew went out of thier way to try and make christmas special but a lot of passengers were away to get away from Christmas and the crew did get Santa on board :D

Christmas day in itself was a bit eerie when sitting out in the sun , but at night once all dressed up for dinner it did get better.

Would we do it again ....nope.

I Thinks It may depend on the ship?

We have been on the Dream & Destiny at Christmas

There will be formal Christmas dinner in the MDR

A Christmas eve party (deck party)

A midnight carol service with the officers in the theartre (Which is very very well attended) with mince pies and mulled wine

A Christmas breakfast with bubbly (bucks fizz/sparkling wine)

A visit to the kids club from Santa on Christmas day

the ship will be decorated (fire hazards allowing) there will be decorated trees around the ship

sometimes (edible) treats will be left in cabins by the stewards

many people bring decorations for their cabins and many will be wearing Christmas hats/googly sunglasses around the ship

You can immerse yourselves in Christmas

Or

you can get away from it....there will be one bar where there is no Christmas...no tinsel...no christmas music

Great to be on the beach at Christmas although on the dream Christmas day is usually a sea day

I hope this helps

We are on the Dream next week for 2 weeks up to Xmas Eve. The last few years we have sailed just prior to Xmas like this and there has been little or nothing - we may be lucky this year !! One year on the Destiny - the first transatlantic in 2008 - they held a carol service in the Can Can after one of the shows at night - nothing since then - but I have not asked what is planned for this year !

They seem to ignore Christmas as a rule until the Xmas cruise itself and then they do as noted in the above reply !!

Have a great time.

A few years ago we cruised on the old Island Star in January, we joined the ship on new years day in barbados, to find the debris of the night before and few bleary eyed officers & crew about....must have been a goodun;)

Within a few hours every little hint of cristmas & new year had been cleared/packed away and it was back to the coal face

We have cruised just once for Christmas and yes it is Christmasy but warm ,strange sunbathing Christmas Day but lovely and jolly at night .Father Christmas came for the little ones ,lots of mince pies, lovely carol services, games on deck.Take a small tree and a couple of dec's and your main Christmas cards for your cabin lots of people put things on the cabin doors as well ,we saw lot's of men in Christmas ties and silly jumpers think most people did seem to be in a very jolly mood, I'm sure you will enjoy it .
