Iluvcruising2 Posted December 28, 2012 Author #427 Share Posted December 28, 2012 The safe in our stateroom. (It is NOT a microwave). You easily fit the iPad in there with plenty of room to spare.
Iluvcruising2 Posted December 28, 2012 Author #428 Share Posted December 28, 2012 We had lunch at the MDR as we waited for the ship to arrive at Wellington. This was taken from our balcony at about 12:45pm. Ship was almost docked at the wharf. You can see the houses on the hills in the distance. Iluvcruising2 Posted December 28, 2012 Author #429 Share Posted December 28, 2012 All of us very eager to get on shore. Orderly queues. Seapass cards in hand!

Iluvcruising2 Posted December 28, 2012 Author #431 Share Posted December 28, 2012 I had forgot to mention that for all the Australian and New Zealand ports, they required seapass plus official Government photo identification for boarding the ship. Therefore the cruise line did not retain our passports for this cruise. Upon return to the ship, the photo ID was sometimes checked. Our plan was to take a taxi to Zealandia - http://www.visitzealandia.com/ However, the taxi queue was very long and there didn’t appear to be a good flow of taxis. So we just decided to start walking towards the city. The Cruise Director had said that we could walk to the city centre in about 20 minutes. Iluvcruising2 Posted December 28, 2012 Author #432 Share Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) We managed to hail a taxi after walking for about 5 minutes in the direction of the city. There is a junction where taxis turn into the port. Apparently more taxis were now being called to come into the port, so we just hailed one as it made the turn into the port gate. We got to the entrance of Zealandia at 1:45pm. Cost was NZ $25. Edited December 28, 2012 by Iluvcruising2
Iluvcruising2 Posted December 28, 2012 Author #433 Share Posted December 28, 2012 We asked to buy a Family ticket for admission to the Sanctuary and Exhibition. The lady kindly told us that they were having a promotion and kids get to go free! Therefore, it would be cheaper for us to just purchase 2 adults tickets. Nice. Iluvcruising2 Posted December 28, 2012 Author #434 Share Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) This eco-sanctuary was huge, with different walking routes classified by colour. The red route was the easiest. We decided to do the red route. It was going to be a long but very worthwhile walk. The time was 1:47pm Edited December 28, 2012 by Iluvcruising2
suncityga Posted December 28, 2012 #435 Share Posted December 28, 2012 Thank you again for the excellent review and photos. I believe you mentioned you had cruised in Alaska previously. If you visited Skagway and if you did the White Pass Yukon Train... how would you compare the Taieri Gorge and the White Pass train rides for scenery and shore excursion value? Thank you ! ! ! Iluvcruising2 Posted December 28, 2012 Author #436 Share Posted December 28, 2012 This sight greeted us once we got in the gates. Time now was 1:50pm. We would begin our trek into the sanctuary!

scottishwee35 Posted December 28, 2012 #445 Share Posted December 28, 2012 Eggs benedict! My favourite MDR breakfast. I never get to eat this back home (Singapore), unless I go to some fancy place for breakfast, which I don’t care to since I know I can get it on the ship. J that is my favourite too... avalon007 Posted December 28, 2012 #446 Share Posted December 28, 2012 I would add that a COPY of your passport will not suffice--must be the original.:o I believe an Australian drivers licence with Photo ID is also acceptable, can you confirm if you know that is correct ILoveCruising2? Much rather carry around the DL's than the passports.:)
callmewhatever Posted December 28, 2012 #447 Share Posted December 28, 2012 On our last 2 NZ cruises we had to have passports plus other photo ID.

Much rather carry around the DL's than the passports.:) Can't confirm 100% but I think so....as long as it is current and govt. issued. They are always saying you need this and that and never check...So I just had my seapass and a copy of my passport. They did let me thru...but checked the entire ship's roster first. (looking for the "embarassed" emoticon :o)
truffles2 Posted December 29, 2012 #450 Share Posted December 29, 2012 Another thing....they are always saying "don't take food off the ship". We don't but a lot of people do. Well, they have these cute little puppies who will come and sit next to you if you have food. We saw it happen. I understand it can be pretty expensive.:p
