crusinmama06 Posted December 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2012 Well I have to say this is all of our worst nightmare and this is the first time in all of my years around here that I have ever seen this. Prayers to the family - I hope the toddler is ok. :( http://wap.wftv.com/site.htm?targetUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wftv.com%2Fnews%2Fnews%2Flocal%2Fcruise-ship-returns-port-canaveral-after-child-fal%2FnTc8d%2F
sailinglisa Posted December 23, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2012 According to news reports, the child crawled through the railing on the pool deck (deck 11) and landed on a balcony on deck 10. The child supposedly crawled away from her father who was watching her. The hospital reported that the child suffered a concussion and will be released in the next day or two. Considering we board in less than a week, I just lectured the boys again on safety... My stomach is sick just thinking of this, glad to hear though that the child who fell is going to be ok. cb at sea Posted December 23, 2012 #6 Share Posted December 23, 2012 That must have been one small toddler! Those railings are so tight, I can barely stand with my knee in a space between bars! I'm sure the parent who wasn't paying attention to their child feels awful.
rebeccalouiseagain Posted December 23, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 23, 2012 That child did not crawl through the railing that's absurd. The railings on Monarch of the Sea are horizontal and glass. There isn't space for a child to crawl through- that means they had to wedge themselves under the balcony glass- not possible. All the facts are not coming in and it is more likely that the child was allowed to climb on something and fell. Think about it- a 14 month old isn't a crawler. A 14 month old is a walker/ climber. Keep in mind- that this parent may not be telling the truth. If by chance, the father dropped this child, the father may be to ashamed to tell the mother this. A more likely scenario is the father doesn't know what happened because he wasn't watching the child like he should have been.
crusinmama06 Posted December 23, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted December 23, 2012 Actually - the only wrong information is probably the deck. The toddler could fall from Deck 12 to Deck 11 as stated in this post. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=36414557
rebeccalouiseagain Posted December 23, 2012 #9 Share Posted December 23, 2012 That makes sense Michelle. The way the article was reported it said that the child fell from a balcony (which made one think a stateroom). This is the only place that a child could have fallen onto a lower deck. That means also that the child would have had to fall onto the pool deck because if it had been off the side of the ship- the child would not have landed on a deck- they would have fallen into the water. Mrsdigi Posted December 23, 2012 #10 Share Posted December 23, 2012 That's why we are sailing the carnival Dream on deck 6. It is right above the promenade deck which juts out. Of course always keep an eye or two or three on your little one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
celle Posted December 23, 2012 #11 Share Posted December 23, 2012 Actually - the only wrong information is probably the deck. The toddler could fall from Deck 12 to Deck 11 as stated in this post. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=36414557 I think you're right, Michele. I've looked at the deck plans of Monarch and everywhere the pool deck seems to overhang the deck below, which has balconies. I can't see how it would be possible for anyone or anything to fall from Deck 11 (the pool deck) to deck 10 (balconies) and not go into the water. Also, on every photo I have found, except for the aft of the ship, the rest of Deck 11 has the plexiglass. Where the aft of Deck 11 does have railings, there appear to be no balconies below. I guess we'll never know what really happened.
