euro cruiser Posted January 1, 2013 #26 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Although Venice does have some flights direct to the US during the season, the overwhelming odds are that your flight from Venice will go somewhere within the Schengen area, which means it's essentially a "domestic" flight. Therefore, the check in desks won't open until two hours prior. Given the mess that VCE usually is, I'd shoot for being there between two and two and a half hours prior, which would mean 7:30 or a little after. The express buses to the airport start running at 5 AM, so no worries about that. The 6:50 AM bus will put you at the airport around 7:15, in plenty of time (timetable here: http://www.atvo.it/images_doc/linee/Linea_35_(dal_28.10.12_al_30.03.2013).pdf). The next bus departs Piazzale Roma at 7:20, arriving at the airport around 7:40. That would be fine as well, it's up to you and your comfort level. The time you need to leave your hotel will depend on how far you are from Piazzale Roma, but 6 AM should be plenty of time from most locations in Venice. mikeerdas Posted January 1, 2013 Author #27 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Excellent, thanks for the info Euro Cruiser. Our first flight segment home will be VCE > FRA (Frankfurt) on Lufthansa. mapleleaves Posted January 1, 2013 #28 Share Posted January 1, 2013 If I remember correctly, nothing is open at the airport until 6am, even the coffee shop! I agree with eurocruiser ... the ATVO express bus at 6:50 or 7:20 will work, whichever you're comfortable with. It's only a 15-20 minute ride.
