Indy 6 nite general questions and suite ??

Tho' recent Indy reviews are not very good, I am looking forward to our 6 night Jan. 27 cruise because I will be seeing new production and ice shows, as we have never sailed Indy before. Thus, questions. Is there a second formal night and if so, which night, please? Which night is lobster served? Can anyone recently on Indy confirm what someone posted that the ship's inside venues, except casino, are non-smoking? Which specialty restaurant is for suite pax brekakfast and lunch? Is there cooked to order breakfast in that restaurnt or just bring food in from WJ? On both Mariner and Freedom, cooked to order breakfast is available as well as limited lunch on Mariner.

Yes, there are two formal nights. I don't recall which. I think someone recently posted the compass. Shows were decent. There are two ice shows, taking turns week to week. We saw Freeze Frame, dancing to music from 40s to 70s. Not bad, wish it was more from 60s to current, but it is what it is. They did a great behind the scenes for Ice Show D/above & Suites, so make sure you sign up for that.

 

Are you in GS/above or JS?

 

Fisherman's plate was offered with lobster tail and shrimp on the second formal night. It was a little chewy IMHO.

 

I was only in a JS, but I did see Mario having breakfast in a corded off section in the WJ one morning. He was in a suite so that was probably the section for them.

 

Smoking is limited to casino (which was cough, cough, awful); and only certain areas on the ship. I think it seemed pretty smoking to me (I don't smoke).

When the Indie was sailing in UK suite guests could use Chops for breakfast and there was a chef in the kitchen there to make breakfasts, excellent, also free fresh orange juice.

lunch time it was to use the WJ and eat food in Chops but they did offer soft drinks tea/coffee and all nicely served.

Great, Missus! We really enjoy that suite perk. We are in our first OS, as we usually get a GS. And thanks, Trekker, for info about the behind the scene tour for the ice show. I will be on the lookout for that.

The formal nights were Day 2 and Day 5. As for the negative reviews, like I said before, I'm not hard to please and do appreciate the small things in life. My entire family of 6 had the best vacation of our lives. I think you will have a great time. The ship was beautiful and the crew was excellent!

I put this as a comment on another thread and thought I'd share it by itself so someone looking for this doesn't miss it.

The Production Showtime was Invitation to Dance and was very good. Good music and great dancing. This was on Day 2.

 

The Production Showtime on Day 5 was Once Upon a Time. I didn't see it but my daughter (26) did and said it was good too.

 

The Headliner Showtime was the dreaded Domenick Allen (the Foreigner guy). We were going to go see this but got busy doing other things and evidently we made the right decision. I have not heard one good thing about this show. While I can't review him since I didn't see him, the other reviews probably gave you a good idea. This was Day 3 only I believe.

 

The Ice Show Freeze Frame was really good. It was only originally scheduled for Day 2 and Day 4, however they added one more show on Day 6. It is worth seeing.

 

The late night comedian, Michael Dean Ester on Day 5 was really funny. I've seen where some were upset it was adult, however I assumed it was adult because of the time (11:30pm). Plus the preview he did during the Welcome Aboard Show on Day 1 definitely hinted to the adult side for the full show. Not sure how someone would not have figured that out!

 

The Love and Marriage Show on Day 4 was very funny. It really depends on the couples that get picked and ours were VERY funny.

 

We really enjoyed the singer, Zac Coombs at the Dog and Badger Pub every night. He had a great voice and played good songs which everyone usually ended up singing with him.

 

Rock the Boat was good too and usually played at the Pyramid Lounge. I enjoyed watching some of the "60 something" folks dancing up a storm to old classic rock. One tall guy danced with his hands in his pockets, never removing them. He was a hoot.

 

The Latin band Prestige at Boleros was really good too and wow, some of those folks could really dance there! This band performed poolside once too I believe.

 

They did usually have a calypso type band poolside that was good to get everyone in the tropical spirit.

 

I did poke my head into the Labyrinth a time or two. The music was loud and inviting if you wanted to "get your moves on". It was fun watching the younger folks dance, but I felt I might just be a little too old for this venue

 

The parades were great, especially the 70's Disco Inferno. Our cruise director Joff Eaton was great as John Travolta. They really got all the passengers in the Promenade involved and we really enjoyed it. That was my husbands era , I was just a baby then .

 

Once again, Joff Eaton the cruise director was really great!!

I think you will also get a bridge tour. There was a suite guest on our Ice tour and as dumb as it was (don't recall exactly the timing) but say the ice tour was at 1:15 and the bridge tour was at 2. They had to scramble to get back to the bridge. They had to cut the behind the scenes tour short. The ice tour starts with the ice captain and the production manager answering questions while we sat in seats, then proceeded to behind the stage. There was so much interest (started from b2bers) about the captains love life. He is engaged to one of the dancers and the Russian dancer is engaged to the Loyalty ambassador. Possibly the Q&A doesn't go this long, but there were quite a few crew romance questions. :eek:

Is this the famous Mario that lives on certain ships? LOL we were with him on Liberty in late January. And then I saw him on Oasis in September. If he is on the Independence now that will be 3 in a row! LOL I wish I could live on a ship.

I was on this same cruise. I don't recall a white party on the Indy as I've seen on the Liberty when I see the recommended dress is white. But there was a dress recommendation for Tropical wear one evening. Lots of folks had tropical shirts on. I will say this, I didn't see many people getting dressed up for this cruise, even in the Diamond lounge. Shorts and Tshirts prevailed throughout.

 

Its a shame most of us are unaware of these themed nights. Although as many ships as I've sailed, there always seems to be a 70s night.

 

I've got my white outfit ready for the Liberty just in case.
