Canada Cruise in June

Recommended Posts

We are thinking of taking our two boys on a cruise to Canada in June. Wondering what the weather would be like for this? Will it be warm enough for them to swim on the ship? What about in Canada?

We have always cruised South before & thought it might be fun to go in the opposite direction.

Thanks

We can help out with the West Coast of Canada - Vancouver / Vancouver Island area. The weather is mainly sunny during the month of June - temperatures range with highs between 12°C to 17°C (53°F - 63°F), though you can get rain for days straight if a weather system comes off the Pacific Ocean. You can find us swimming in the local lakes and streams by June. Normally we start in mid-late May - depending on when the rain lets up. We have also done an Alaskan cruise in early May and were quite comfortable swimming onboard during the day while ice floated around the ship.

Umm... Canada is a big place. :D Where are you going? You can find out the weather easily by using one of the web-based weather sites. They always have statistics for each city; plug in your port cities and see what the average temperature is.

As far as swimming, I probably wouldn't swim on a ship in Canada even in July or August, but your kids might. *shrug*

On a Canada / New England cruise.... probably not, although on the ship it is a better possibility. The weather could be warm enough that the kids would be happy in the ships pool. In Saint John or Halifax, only the most hardy are in the water in June. I grew up on PEI and even as a kid we didn't go swimming outside until late June at the earliest. The water of the Bay of Fundy is very cold year round, so only the hardy or foolish swim in those waters at any time. If you have a Charlottetown PEI stop then that is a different story, their sandy beaches are beautiful in the summer months but June is still a little early.

Hope that helps.

HAL 's Maasdam sails Boston to Montreal to Boston and we do that cruise, b-to-b every summer. We love it. HAL's ships have Lido Pool under a retractable glass roof. The roof is opened when it is mild and warm and closed if bad weather. The children can swim everyday in that pool.

The temperatures that time of year can be very variable in New England. It is possible to have 85 degrees in Boston and it is also possible to have 60 degrees. The later in June you sail, the better chance for mild weather.

Usually, but not always, the further north you go, the cooler the temperatures might be.

The other direction would be great fun. IF:

You pick a ship with heated pools for the boys.

With all due respect to someone that lives on Vancouver Island ...Lakes and streams in June almost anywhere in Canada would be for the kids ...maybe and then only momentarily. lol. In BC anyhow.

how old are the kids--- they can swim in any temperature water.

I was amazed last year how many kids were in the pools on a cruise out of Baltimore in February

all depends where you go. IF it's East Coast, water will be chilly !;) But of course, kids will not feel it at all !! On the ship, no problemo!
