Sunday in Martinique?

:confused: We understand Fort-de-France is pretty much closed on Sunday which is the day we will be there. We were hoping to have a relaxing day strolling the streets and enjoying the local "flavor". Is there anything open at all? Any shops or restraunts/bars open? Are there any beaches nearby? Please help with any info you may have.

Yes, Sunday is slow.

The farmers market will be open in downtown and most of the stores, but you cannot get a rental car.

The island is beautiful and really can only be seen via car.
