Wyndham Nassau - what's the situation

Looking at a March cruise on the Ecstasy. Would be in Nassau from 8-5. 1st choice would be spending the day at the Sheraton, and maybe walking over to the Wyndham for a few shots down their small water slide. But i think that the Wyndham is "under construction". Can someone give the me latest on the situation? Can we still head over to the Wyndham if the Sheraton day pass is purchaced? Does the construction at the Wyndham lessen the appeal at the Sheraton? Any feedback would be appreciated, as we are also looking at Blue Lagoon as an other option..

Thanks!

Spent the day at the Sheraton on 1/1/13. The Wyndham is completely under construction but I didn't notice it after I got inside the Sheraton. We had a great time at the Sheraton, it is beautiful. We rented a room as it was about the same amount of money as the 4 day passes we would need ($123.00 including tax). WE all took showers/washed off the sand and got ready for the evening on the ship before heading back to the port.

Excuse me, but the Wyndham is NOT under construction.

DW and I stayed at the Wyndham from Dec.28th til Jan.2nd,2013 for a "free" casino junket. Our days were spent on the beach whilst at night, enjoying "free" drinks in the Crystal Palace Casino, which is on the main floor of the Wyndham.

The BAHA MAR complex is under construction.

Labeled as "The New Riviera" it's a 3 billion dollar project to be completed in December of 2014. The huge construction site is fenced off and not an issue, as it is far enough away(about 1/2 mile) from the Sheraton and Wyndham beaches (which properties and beaches are connected) that you will not notice any noise or interruption.

We had a great time in the sun and sand, away from the 25 degree F temperature of Northwesten PA.

NOTE: From the ship, take the Number 10 west to Cable Beach. The bus ride will cost $1.25 USD per person(pay when you get off). The buses run along scenic West Bay Street. It only takes about 15 minutes to get to the Hotels at Cable Beach. We enjoyed the local flavor of the bus, and took it several times for side trips.

DW and I have been to Nassau twice by ship and this time, decided to take advantage of a "free" 5 night New Years casino package and stayed at the Wyndham.

As I previously stated, the the Wyndham is not under construction; if anything, it's in a state of disrepair; for example, it could use new carpeting.

I talked to a representative of the BAHA MAR. (The Baha Mar people own all the properties.) At this time, they are deciding whether to remodel the Wyndham or tear it down.

You can use all the beach and facilities of both hotels, as they are virtually connected, but you will most likely find yourself parked on the Sheraton's beach; most everything is right there.

I would say your biggest issue is that you only have one day to enjoy yourself.

I hope this helps.

Mike

Hi, we are crusing in March... any tips you can give us? We are considering Atlantis but since we already live in Tampa Bay I'm not sure this is the right place for us.

It depends on what you are looking for...

I'd say you should read some more reviews and do some planning.

Don't just get get off the ship, walk around, then say,"Why did we stop here?"

My spouse and I spent five nights in Nassau based at the Wyndham and enjoyed doing mostly nothing but beach, reading and casino... oh and an "occasional" drink. (The famous Daiquiri Shack is right across from the Sharaton/Wyndham Hotelsin in the Cable Beach area)

We spent New Years Day at Atlantis/Paradise Island.

From the Wyndham, took the #10 bus to the ferry.

The ferry to Paradise Island is walking distance from the cruise ships. It cost $4.00 each way.

The 15 minute ferry ride includes a tour guide(sort of) that speaks English(sort of) and does a little tip groveling near the end, however we enjoyed his banter and the ride and the fellow tourist we met while waiting for the ferry to fill up.

WE found Atlantis overpriced, however, everything seems to be.:)

It IS a great place for photos.

You get what you pay for.... sort of.:)
