Tips on choosing cabin?

Hi all,

 

I've been on a few cruises, but I'm still a little stymied when it comes to choosing cabin locations. I understand the different categories, but I'm not sure where the 'best' cabin is.

COuld I have some input on the cabins I'm considering for a Liberty Oct 2013 sailing?

 

My party will be three people (2 adults, and a 7 year old child). I'm considering the following:

 

Interior, Verandah deck, aft, not next to elevator

 

Balcony, Lido deck, midship

 

 

Am I correct in thinking that you get the least amount of motion aft?

Also, I would love to book a balcony (we've always done interior) that is close to the action, but I wonder if Lido is a little too close to the action. I don't need silence to sleep, but I don't want a parade going by my room every five mintues either.

 

Can anyone comment?

JMO , but I would opt for a balcony on 7 mid-ship. If motion bothers you, aft is worse...Lido could be noisy depending on your location of lido..Mid ship also is located more so where everything is not so far. If you do a balcony, you might very well continue to do so..

Your second choice ....perfect..you are near everything. The cabins are closed off from the action, so you need not worry about noise. Also, with a 7 year old and having a balcony, you and your husband can enjoy your bottle of wine...late night snacks....peace and serenity, while your child is sleeping. Best of luck to you in what ever you decide.

No question... BALCONY room. Lido is an excellent location, and you don't typically hear any parading of people becasue of where the elevators/stairs are. We typcially book out balcony cabins towards aft & within a floor or two of Lido.

Unless you're ultra sensitive to motion, there's not a huge amount of difference between a midship cabin and one that's in the Aft section. If your budget will allow the cost of a balcony cabin, book it. It's good to experience having one at least once. There are many that say once you've had a balcony cabin, you won't go back. If possible, try to get a cabin that has other cabins above and below you. Try to avoid cabins that are above or below public areas, such as lounges, the casino, etc. Where the "best" cabin is is subjective. My "best choice" is going to be different from someone else's "best choice".

We loved, loved, loved our balcony on Lido....so close to everything...never a problem with noise...and, great perk....NO public restroom needed! LoL

My favorite cabin would be between the midship & forward elevators on Deck 2 for most of Carnival's ships (excluding Spirit & Fantasy class), including Liberty. Lido deck rooms are not close to every thing. The dining rooms, theater, nighttime entertainment, debarkation, and getting off/on the ship in port requires an elevator ride at the times when everyone on the ship is trying to use the elevators. From deck 2, no need for elevators for any of those things, as long as you can handle a couple flights of stairs. The only time I need an elevator is when there is not a high demand for them. Getting up to or down from lido deck in the daytime is a breeze, as the crowds are more scattered out at those times.

 

The newest ships have cove balconies on deck 2, which are awesome! Conquest, Triumph, Splendor, & Destiny/Sunshine class doesn't have balconies there (Liberty included here), but the oceanview rooms there are large, the same size as a balcony room when combining indoors & outdoors. It's a nice compromise between the expensive balconies & the cheap insides, which are also very tiny. I've had a few balconies, and they are nice to try every once in awhile, but I don't get much use out of the balcony, especially ones that are higher up. I would prefer to be closer to the water in a balcony. On Liberty, I would pick Deck 7 for a balcony, as it is centrally located between almost everything, and has only rooms both above & below. Daytime stuff upstairs a couple, nighttime stuff downstairs a couple. Getting off/on the ship in ports is still a long ways, so there is the elevator logjam for that.

 

I have stayed just above lido deck a couple times, and although certain conveniences were nice (buffet, pool, waterslides), the inconveniences (dining room, theater, getting off/on the ship) were worse. Plus, I definitely noticed more motion on the higher decks as opposed to lower decks. I don't mind motion, but I do feel it, and there was more motion higher up. Deck 2 rooms between midship & forward elevators felt very little motion. Being underneath the dining room almost guarantees a whisper quiet room as well. Even when in use, I can't hear anything from above, and the dining room is empty all night.

Check to make sure other cabins are both above and below yours. You do not want to be close to the disco, or piano bar.
