I'm Cruising The Miracle Next Week, And I Just Plan To Stay On Ship!! No Excursions!! I've Been To These Ports Numerous Times, Been There Done That!!

Got A Great Last Minute Deal, That I Just COULN"T Pass Up!!

Have Any Of You Cruise, And Just Stayed On The Ship??

If So, How Was It??

Have gone on sailings where I have been to the port before, but I never stayed on the ship. I went off on my own even if only to walk around and grab a snack -- change from all the motion.

Unless the weather is bad, why stay on the ship? There must be some near by place you could walk to and then return to the ship.

We have never just stayed on the ship at port. Although, I do hear its nice to have the ship to yourself. I think we are just to nosey when we get somewhere and we have to see whats going on and what it's all about even if we have been there before.

I don't think I could do it. I thought three sea days (especially two together) on my last trip were way too much. I am a go, go, go person and having two full days at sea before getting anywhere left me bored out of my mind. I also thought about if I was on a land vacation and I don't even think at a resort I could tolerate being stuck there for a week.

I am so glad with the Med 9 day cruise there's only one sea day and frankly, I'm not even sure I need it. lol

That's exactly the reason we rarely do resort vacations. I would go insane being somewhere like a resort and not being able to see anything new since we wouldnt have a vehicle. Put me on a ship and im happy for a few days at sea and then I love being in port and doing different things!

I have done this many times and I love it. You have the buffet and Serenity practically to yourself - very relaxing.

You can use taxis at resorts. Or even sign up for a tour just like a cruise ship.

We do it a lot. My favorite island is Bermuda, so many of the other ports, at least the warmer ports we've sailed to are all the same, and don't compare. As a matter of fact, we're on the Pride in few weeks, and won't be getting off the ship. We've been to all of the scheduled ports before, so we plan to enjoy the ship during port days. Hoping for a less crowded Serenity Deck on the ship for those port days too. Happy sailing!!!

Did it in Cozumel and LOVED it! You can always go walk around if you want to get offo the ship, but absolutely loved the privay, it felt like a private yacht almost. And the servers were very attentative. I would go "no excusrsion" any time

We (49, 37dw and 8 dd) cruise for the ports and the oppurtunity to get culture and learn something about new places. On board we don't do Lido deck fun, pools, casinos etc.. But we do trivia, play board games and read books. On board my biggest joy is to find a quiet spot near a window, all alone with my BV bottle of rum, having a class straight up over ice and a good book.

Ports we explore, always tend to do museums, out of the way hiking spots, always visit a local school or orphanage, local grocery store, eat at a local food spot ( street food the best) and chat with a few locals. We tend to avoid common "excursions" like atvs, ziplines, beaches, tourist shops for shopping, chains like Carlos and Charlies/Margaritaville, swimming with aquatic creatures, A.I.'s, scuba or anything involving other folks or a bus.

So staying on board...no thanks. I enjoy quiet time on the ship, but that would be too much of a good thing and ruin the reason we cruise.

It's hard to imagine taking a cruise and just staying on the ship. Half the reason is the adventure and, unless it is your first or second cruise, there isn't much adventure to staying on the ship.

That said, I rarely pre-book organized (and often contrived) "excursions". I'm much more a do-it-yourselfer. Plus, depending where you're going, you're more likely to see something culturally or historically significant by doing research and making your own on-shore plans than booking something created solely for tourists.

During two European cruises in 2010 and 2011, I think we only took one organized "excursion" and that was simply a matter of logistics of that particular Turkish port. Otherwise we make our own plans and find our own travel.

Relax on the ship; adventure in port!

Exactly what you said..."Relax on the Ship"....to us the whole reason for a cruise is to RELAX and the ship is our destination! If we want adventure, we go for a land vacation where we have more than a few hours in a port with sometimes so many cruise ship passengers, it is just crazy. To get on board and turn our cell phones off and do what we want at our own pace is our vacation...so everyone is going to look at a cruise a different way...to us, the ship is the vacation and all that goes with it....

It's not something I'd consider with Carnival. Perhaps Celebrity or Crystal...

maybe its just me! but if I wanted to stay in one place I'd do a land based vaca and hold up in a resort all week. granted to some point you float by a different view occasionally, I think the whole point of cruising is the nomadic way it gives you to see and experience different cultures and countries. The day I think there is nothing more or to experience on the many caribbean islands is the day I stop cruising those ports.

there are some islands that I can see limiting my visit, but entire cruise of that why book a cruise??

I think some people cruise for the ports and some for the ship. Our family doesn't care so much where the ship is going but which ship we will be on. We are going to only do 1 excursion on a 7 day cruise but will pop off at port and shop a bit and then back to the ship. That works for us. Sounds like you are the opposite. It's all good b/c cruising works for both types of people (and many others!). :)

We are going to do this on our next cruise!! We will be sailing on the Inspiration on February 18, 2013 to Catalina and Ensenada. We have done this cruise many times, so this time it is about rest and relaxation. We don't care where we cruise, as long as we get to cruise!! Dinners every night in the MDR is one of the most enjoyable things about cruising for us. Can't wait for the lobster on the formal night. Yummy!!!!! ;)

You know everyone has their reasons and after the year we had I just wanted something to relax.

On our last 2 cruises were stressful on one we got a call that my Dad was very sick and we came home early from a Panama Canal cruise and the second 6 months later he passed away so this cruise is total relaxation. Plus as I said we've been to these ports many times.

They are prob. like me. I don't cruise so much as for the ports as I do to just be on the ship! I love sitting on my balcony feeling the breeze, staring at the wide open ocean, listening to the waves splashing. I do some excursions, sometimes just look around at ports, but I would be more than happy to just be on the ship! Some like to get off and get sloppy drunk, some like to shop and spend a truckload of money! Some just walk around! People are DIFFERENT and cruise for different reasons! There is NO right way to cruise! Just enjoy it and quit worrying about what others want or don't want! Geezzzzeeee!!! lol

I have stayed on board several times and I love it....I truly love the cruise experience and the relaxation of the ship is all I need (sometimes)

Great deals in the spa on port days...No lines for anything...and a great time to bond with staff because you have them all to your self.

Give it a shot...People do it at All Inclusinves...now that Carnival has the Cheers Program...what is the difference? ;)

Exactly! We were thinking of doing Sunset Beach in Jamaica and Nachi Cocum in Cozumel - it would cost (for us and our two children) about $450 for these two port day outings. It's too cold right now (at least WE find it too cold, we've been down there before this time of year) to enjoy the water, so it's really more about enjoying the food and drinks. For $780, we can do the Cheers program ALL WEEK and our kids can get soda cards, and they actually enjoy staying on the ship more than going to port most of the time, unless we're doing something new (we've pretty much done all there is to do in these ports). So we intend to board the Conquest tomorrow and stay on it for 7 straight days! Cheers! ;-)

We don't plan on doing any excursions on our next cruise.

We will probably get off in Cozumel and do a bit of shopping (if we feel like it!) but other than that, we are going to do whatever our mood suits.

I'm sure we'd enjoy relaxing on deck while at port... ah, relaxing.... isn't that what vacations are all about??

My son and I are cruising the Ecstasy in April. We have no excursions planned. We might get off in Freeport and find a beach to enjoy, but staying on the ship is good, too.

We plan to just get off for a short time in Nassau, browse the straw market and head back. He just wants to get some sun!

I figure our sea day will be ultra crowded on the decks, so if we can make use of a port day to lounge by the pool, good for us!
