Modified Walking Tour?

We will be visiting Nassau on Valentines Day! My mother will be with us and she wants to visit Atlantis, though Im not sure she wants to delve in to the passes. My husband also wants to see Fort Fincastle and The Queen's Staircase. We have been to Nassau before, but its been a while. We will also have a 9 year old with us and arent too sure about the safety of walking the island. I remember hearing about tourists being robbed at the staircase.

My question is this, does anyone know what the cost would be to take a taxi from port to the staircase then over to Atlantis? Do we need to hire one and have them wait for us at the Fort then let them go after they get us to Atlantis? Is this even do-able?

I saw a tour through Island Marketing (http://bahamascruiseexcursions.com/NassauIslandTour.htm) and we'd like to do something similar, but Im not sure its worth $47 a person to do this. Can we do it more feasibly and safely by ourselves? Does anyone know how reputable Island Marketing is?

Thank you!

The price from port to the staircase would be $8pp. and from the staircase to Atlantis $11pp. Plus some wait time.. you could probably negotiate a set fee with a taxi driver.

As for Atlantis.. I don't know if you are aware that you can no longer enter the building and just check it out. You'll need to purchase a day pass.

The only area open to the public is the Casino (no kids allowed), and a couple of small shops in the coral towers. You are not allowed to wander around to check it out and peer out onto the property. I don't know what your mom is looking to do..., but it's very restricted.

Marina Village, which is adjacent to the Atlantis property is open to the public for shopping and dining.

The Taste of Nassau trip from Island marketing is legit. You get a full meal on this tour.. worth the $47 in my book. It doesn't go to Atlantis.

Island marketing responded to my email and said they no longer offer this tour. Do you know of anyone else who offers anyone a similar tour.

majestictoursbahamas.com has a historic city and country tour. Doesn't include food, but that's an easy fix. The #10 jitney will get you to the Fish Fry for $1.25pp.
