espre Posted January 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2013 I've just booked our reservation at Nachi Cocum and I understand that we (3 adults) will have to hire a taxi from the cruise ship pier to the resort. I've read that the average cost for a taxi to the resort is around $15.00, but will this be the case for the trip back to the pier or will they up the price because they know you HAVE to get back to your ship? Also, how far is local shopping (not the cruise line shops) from the pier? If we have the taxi drop us off for some shopping, would we have to find another taxi to take us back to the ship or could we walk without any problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! caribsun Posted January 17, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2013 There are 3 piers, Punta langosta pier is located right in the shopping district. Puerta Maya and International pier requires a taxi. When leaving Nachi Cocum confirm the price before you enter, the price is around 15.00 to the other piers but maybe a little more to downtown. No - set price; taxis are fairly well regulated in Coz (unlike my recent experience in Philadelphia  Also, how far is local shopping (not the cruise line shops) from the pier? Depends upon your pier - unless you are located downtown you are likely about a $10 cab ride from downtown If we have the taxi drop us off for some shopping, would we have to find another taxi to take us back to the ship or could we walk without any problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Depends upon your pier - I would plan on a $10 cab ride. Hope you have a good cruise! :)
espre Posted January 18, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted January 18, 2013 Thanks for the information, everyone! Especially for the link to the Puerta Maya website, grayorsino. Very helpful! We will be on the Crown Princess so this is the pier we will be at. One more question: Are the shops at this pier typical of the shops we would find in the downtown area or is there more of a local feel to downtown? This is our first time to Cozumel and if it's all pretty "touristy" I'd just as soon skip downtown and stay closer to the cruise ship after our time at Nachi. Colorado Kat Posted January 18, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2013 In my experience, the pier shops are more commercial, and the shops downtown are more local. If you have time, hit downtown. But you may decide to stay at Nacci till the last minute.
Rare mitsugirly Posted January 18, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 18, 2013 Like another poster said, the taxi rates are a set rate depending on where you are coming from and going to. They all charge the same rate (for the same amount of people in that category). We always dock at Punta Laguna and it was $17 to Nachi this time. When you are at Nachi, you will get a waiter assigned to you. When you are ready to leave, you simply tell your waiter and they will get you a cab. No worries at all. :)
michele5166 Posted January 18, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 18, 2013 While at Nachi, you request a cab 5 minutes before you need one and they will come get you when it arrives! We paid $17 on the way back to pier, and $20 on way there (driver told us he didn't have change and I didn't want to argue with him). The pier we were at had a large shopping mall area, it is called Punta Lagosta or something like that. It was about a 20-25 minute cab ride there. They have a lot of gift shops with all the typical touristy stuff, Senor Frogs is there as well.

So folks make sure you have small bills.
OKC Cruisers Posted January 22, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2013 We have been to Cozumel several times over the years. I have to say that our last visit on December 21st was the first time we had taxi drivers try to take advantage of us. Going to Nachi, we were loaded into a larger "van" style taxi with another couple who went to another beach club very near Nachi. He charged them $20 USD. He then dropped us at Nachi, about another 1/2 mile further down, he charged us $20 USD as well. Coming back, the cab driver tried to charge us $25 USD, when I said I would like to speak with the port taxi official, suddenly it was $15 USD. Hmm. Also, on the return trip, we were dropped off across the street from the International Pier at some shopping "mall." This was the first time we weren't dropped off inside the terminal area. Had to walk through the mall and cross the street...wasn't happy with that, but the taxi driver, "No Habla Ingles" all of a sudden. Pete

Glad to know I wasn't the only one that got this "I have no change routine". I had a lot of small bills at the beginning of the trip by the time we got to Mexico all I had left were 20's. The casino on the ship is a good source for changing large bills into small ones. ;)
