Table for two on Ryndam

We have just booked our first HAL cruise and it's to the Norwegian fjords onboard the Ryndam.

This cruise has been booked to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and we have requested a table for two in the mdr (we have requested the later sitting).

Does anyone know if we are likely to get a table for two or have you been onboard and seen any tables for two at all?

Are we more likely to get a table for two if we opt for the "as you wish" dining option?

Thanks in advance.

There are quite a few tables for 2 on the Ryndam. We always have been able to one.

Your problem may be as to how many others have already requested a table for 2. Some people book cruises (we are among them) over a year in advance just to get the cabin they want as well as their choice of dining and table size.

There are also tables for 2 in the Open Seating as well -- no guarantee if you can get a table for 2 there either.

In December we booked a cruise for 2014 and we are wait listed for the early fixed dining time for a table for 2. The closer we get to that cruise and our request isn't honored, then we will cancel that cruise. That is just us.

Congratulations on celebrating your 30th anniverary.

Hope all works out for you.

We have been told that table assignments are made in order of date you booked the cruise, if you are a big number of days repeater, category of cabin.......

I don't know if it is true or not but is not totally illogical so maybe.

Even if you do not initially get assigned your choice of two top, ask again the second or third night. There is always some moving around of people from one table or time of dining to another etc and perhaps a table for two might become available.

Seeing you are a Platinum Medallion, cruise in Suites and are on wait list...... I'd be very concerned, were it me, there could be a large group on board that reserved a block of tables.

I'd be investigating that and would cancel were that the case.

Table seating does, of course, vary from cruise to cruise. We were just on the Ryndam over New Year's though and found that we were able to sit at the very same 2-top every night by being on the Anytime Dining option, being willing to eat before 6pm and making the reservation the night before as we left the dining room. As it lools like you want to eat later, try making it after 8pm and see if you get the same availability as going early. It seemed that prime time was 6:30 to 7:30pm. It helped immensely to have the table number to give the dining room manager at the podium when making the reservation. For some reason, the table number wasn't positioned on the tables in the Anytime Dining section, so ask your waiter (assuming you want one of his tables again).

Congratulations on your 30th! Hope you have an enjoyable cruise.
