Gold Sail and Sign Cards?

Yes, they will place an invitation in your cabin for you and a guest.

No, the invitation is only for the past guest. Nowhere does it say anything about the past guest and a guest. Now, many people do bring a first timer, but only the past guest is officially invited. After all, it is called the "past" guest party.

I think that color thing they do is dumb. I never am told anything about it then I hear a little about it during a game and most people have no idea what "team" they are on. We never get a points tally and there is no "prize". It isn't much of an incentive. They ought to just drop it if they aren't going to put more structure to it.

Two completely different things. This thread is about the S&S cards, you're talking about the red, white, and blue team thing that has to do with your dining room seating placement, nothing to do with any perk/past guest status. But, I do agree with you that it's dumb. They announce what team you're on the first night in the dining room based on your table location and number.

Not necessarily....if you haven't been updated in their computers they may only recognize you as a first-timer. Might want to check to make sure Carnival knows about your previous cruises.

When I booked they gave me mypast guest number, do you think that is sufficient to know that they recognize I am a past guest?

Also if they give you a blue card by error....just go to the pursers desk and get it changed.

On our second cruise they gave me a blue card since the first one was under my maiden name (our honeymoon). No big deal....just went to the pursers desk and got my Gold card instantly. :)

It said on my invite that I could bring a guest and the guy that checked us in told us the same thing. Check your invite if you don't believe me, but does it really matter? I went, the free drinks were nasty and it was quite boring. Lasted all of 15 minutes. The party was on the last night of the cruise when it should have been on the first night. The video they showed us kept saying have a great cruise and welcome back. All when we were about to leave the next morning.

I read somewhere on these boards that during the party you could order from the bar for free, not just accept what they are passing out. Is that true?

Yes, and it doesn't hurt to give them a little 'incentive' to bring your special order drink quickly. We alway try to sit near the 'bar' even if it's just a backroom bar for the servers, they'll bring them faster that way too.

Since you all are talking about being a gold card or a platinum member, i thought I might as well throw this little bit of information in for you incase you didn't know. Carnival is starting some new thing now where on your 25th cruise with Carnival you get 25% of your total booking price as OBC.

So if your cruise came to a total of $2000 you'd get $500 OBC. That's a pretty good deal. They also do this for your 50th cruise (you get 50%) 75th cruise and so on.

FYI...This thread is almost 3 years old.

tamiflood, I use a plastic id holder at times and also have them punch a hole at the casino/purser desk and attach a lanyard.

:D I never looked at the dates either of these posts. But I was thinking all my last few cards had been gold on the last several cruises.

  • 2 months later...
I would love to have a Gold or Platinum Sign and Sail Card, its nice to be recognized and its great for my scrapbooks, but is a colored S & S Card the only thing they could come up with as a Recognition Program???

My boss has sailed many times with Princess, RCCL and Celebrity and he gets great incentives for going back and recognition. For example, the Anchor Club and Circle Clubs and all sorts of free things. :D

I know Carnival now has the Carnival Vacation Club and the things that you would think should be free as incentives they want to charge you a LOT of money for... Doesnt make any sense to me... Regardless, I am going to sail with Carnival but I wish there was something more than colored Sign and Sail Cards.. :)

Maybe Carnival is able to charge less because they don't have so many incentives. Just an idea. I know I like seeing a lower amount when looking to book a cruise. It was 300 dollars difference per person with the same itinerary on two lines. Carnival won.

I've never had a Gold S & S Card??

Is this new?? I went on the Spirit 2 weeks ago and I dont think I heard or saw anyone with gold or platinum cards...

What colored S&S card did you get. First timers get the red and blue one, 2-9 get the gold one, 10+ get the Platinum one.

I don't think friends of past guests, sailing in the same cabin, should be barred from the party. I was invited my first cruise because my friend, sharing the cabin, was a past guest. What about spouses where one spouse has cruised previously? Does he leave his wife in the cabin? ;)

On our second cruise, the party was cancelled because the cruise was also during New Year's Eve and it was too much for the crew to handle (they say.....) On our third cruise, we were invited to the party, but our guests were not included so we chose not to go........

Our fourth cruise was only 4 days so there wasn't a party.....

We get the gold card but we haven't seen any advantages, including the crew knowing our 'status'..

Here's another way to put it.

1 blue & red card + 8 gold cards = 1 platinum card on the next cruise. :D

I'm at 6 cruises so far and am hoping to get that coveted platinum card by the end of 09.

Yeah, I always thought it was dumb too... There's nothing to win, or any prizes... It's something that a 6 year old would do, rather than adults.

Or her husband, so yes they are left and rightfully so :D. Being a Past Cruiser has benefits.
