Luggage question at DFW

Which Hyatt at DFW? There is the Hyatt Hotel and the Grand Hyatt. The Grand Hyatt is above Terminal D and the bellman will assist you, your husband and your luggage to the AA check in area. (which is an elevator ride below the lobby and an easy walk). This is something I've done when I had to overnight at DFW between flights (yes DFW is my home airport but sometimes on a complicated trip, I don't have time to go home).

The bellman at the older Hyatt Hotel are very helpful as well but can't take you to the terminal. They will assist you and your stuff onto the shuttle bus at the front door of the hotel. I have checked a lot of luggage over the years at both hotels and am not concerned about doing so.

Both Hyatts at DFW have excellent restaurants.

As walking can be an issue for your husband, telephone your hotel and explain that you really do need a room near the elevators.

You have made a wise decision about that 45 minute connection and the rest at the hotel will benefit the rest of your trip.

After our overnight stay at the Grand Hyatt hotel our flight the next day is an International flight on AA. Is the AA international check in also just below the hotel or will we need to take a shuttle to it? Luckily we only have one bag on wheels each plus hubby's backpack, and his CPAP which I can carry since I only have my huge purse.

Literally directly below. In fact you will go through the international check-in lobby to get to the escalator up to the Grand Hyatt.

When we first go to the Grand Hyatt we are coming from Baggage Claim since we will have come in on a domestic flight from ELP.

Thank you for re-assuring me that the international terminal is directly below.

I hadn't been sure if PennyAgain was referring to International or Domestic terminal or if they were both the same terminal.

If you choose, the Grand Hyatt's bellman can escort you and your luggage to the AA check in Terminal D. This is a huge bonus for guests at this hotel.

I had one of the Grand Hyatt's bellmen come to my room to take my luggage and then I went to breakfast in the hotel and met him for the trip to check in.

Once your baggage is checked and you have your boarding passes, it is a short distance to the TSA and then you are in Terminal D with all sorts of shops, restaurants and places to sit.

Have a wonderful trip!

ELP-DFW will bring you in to one of four terminals at DFW - A, B, C and D. There is also Terminal E, but American doesn't use it. Even though D is international, it also has domestic flight arrivals and departures. However, odds are you'll arrive in to one of the other terminals. You will then have to transfer to Terminal D. If you do not have checked luggage, or your luggage is checked through, you can hop on the SkyTrain within security and get to Terminal D. If you have luggage to pick up first, you can take a bus outside of the terminal to get to Terminal D.

Since you state you do have luggage, you'll obviously have to go with the latter since you won't have access to the SkyTrain.

Thanks, PennyAgain. I just hadn't been sure before if the AA terminal you'd been referring to for our departure was the International terminal. Sounds like it is.

From one of PennyAgain's posts earlier, I think there is a Grand Hyatt shuttle we can get outside the baggage claim terminal??

I just telephoned the Grand Hyatt at DFW to find out what you need to do. You will collect your baggage in any case and if you land at Terminal D, you just need to follow the signs to the Grand Hyatt. Easy.

If you land at another Terminal at DFW, you collect your baggage and step outside to catch the blue and green Terminal Link shuttle (a bus) which will take you to Terminal D in front of the Grand Hyatt. You will be assisted in loading and unloading your baggage from the Terminal Link Shuttle. The bellmen at the Grand Hyatt can assist you with your baggage.

Here is the telephone number of the Grand Hyatt Hotel at DFW. 972-973-1234.

I know what it is like to travel when you are tired and/or have responsibility for yourself and others. Been there, done that!

You may wonder why I would stay at a hotel at DFW when I live an hour or so away. Fair question. When I have a very early flight, staying at DFW saves stress. I've also had the situation where I've had to fly in to and out of DFW with no time (or strength left) to go home and then leave home again in a few hours.

I have stayed at the Grand Hyatt when I had to fly into DFW on an international flight and then after about 10 hours, depart on another flight. That time at the Grand Hyatt with a fine place to stay, helpful people and fine food saved me enough energy that the remainer of the trip was a success.

I've stayed about a zillion times at the Hyatt Regency DFW which by the way has its own shuttle vans which are white with a purple stripe.

Best of luck in your travels!

I live 30 minutes from MCI and stay at the airport Marriott sometimes. Convenience for a 6am flight is always a plus.

If I know that I absolutely cannot over sleep, I sleep very little so start out a trip tired.

I try to smooth out as many possible bumps in the travel road as possible.

I think you're wise. No price can be put on comfort, convenience, and lack of stress.

When we had more choice of flights so more time between flights, when hubby was more mobile, I wasn't nearly as OCD about wanting all my "ducks in a row". I was much more flexible and could go with the flow more easily.

Thank you to all of you for all your help in this unsatisfactory routing.

I've been weekly checking AA Mileage Award site to see if there are any new routes added for ELP-CPH. Yesterday I saw that new routing had been added. This one is MUCH better so today I called to change our routing and successfully got this new one:

9/29: Depart ELP on AA at 7:35am, arrive ORD (Chicago) 11:35am

Depart ORD on AB (Air Berlin) 3:35pm

9/30 Arrive TXL (Berlin) 7:00am, Depart TXL on AB 9:10am

Arrive CPH 10:10am

Besides having some early morning flights, this routing also allows some

time to do some sightseeing in Copenhagen. I'd been disappointed before not to have any time to do that since we were arriving 5:10pm formerly.

The AA agent also gave us seating assignments all the way to CPH so I won't have to go online to do that.

I am much relieved now at the timing, especially with the sequester causing delays, including at DFW where we had last flight of day.

Thanks again to everyone for your help.

PennyAgain -- I've saved all the info about Grand Hyatt since I foresee that Joe and I might stay there at a future time.

I would still make sure you get your Air Berlin confirmation number to have on hand, just in case. I always feel better having that, even if it means an extra call.

Good point. I'll be calling their US Service number anyway to find out what kind of medical certificate is needed to have CPAP as carryon in cabin with no charge, so I'll confirm then.

(Air Berlin site shows one 8kg carryon p/p allowed in cabin, that medical equipment is allowed with Medical Certificate.)
