Carry a variety of bills so you can hit it close because Colones are usually given for change as sjmbruce mentioned. If you do come home with some money little kids love the paper bills. A 2'000 note makes them think they've won the lottery and the coins make nice ornaments if you drill a little hole in them for a hanging wire.
