I would like to see the catacombs when visiting Rome can anyone suggest the best one to see? and how to get there on public transportation?

Thank you for any help!

There are several catacombs that are open to the public in and around Rome. Here is some info on the major ones:

And here's how to get to the ones on the Via Appia (Appian Way), the ones most people want to visit:

we did the Carpucchin Crypts in Rome along with the Catacombs post cruise with romecabs one year www.romecabs.com both were very interesting. The crypts are somewhat morbid with monk bone art (don't want to ruin the surprise) and the catacombs were huge- a dark maze, tiny bit scary but with a guide you won't get lost. Definately a must do experience

I agree with MyDreamVacation suggestion....both the Catacombs AND Capuchin crypt are fascinating...creepy, but oh so fascinating! It makes you look at your own life and existence in such a profound way.

And near the Cataboms is the Ancient Apian Way, another bonus to add to your visit to the Catacombs.
