Your zoom lens, is it a f 2.8 ? are you on tripod? ISO ?

That camera handles high ISO extremely well. I dont think I would be able to get those kind of pics with my kit. But I guess ill have to try.

It really does quite well up to 6400. It will go up to 25,600 but I haven't played with that.

iso 6400 for the manual night scenes - some of the buffet were using a flash so whatever the auto metering decided.

Still lots of food to consume so relatively light on breakfast. Pineapple juice, coffee, water, a double bloody mary, sausage, hash browns, bacon and wheat toast. Typical stuff.
