Can I watch the Oscars on the ship?

we were on last year during the Oscar show, the Star made a big deal out of it by showing it in the Vista Lounge and they did an Oscar trivia before the show. it was also shown in the cabins, they didn't show on muts as the weather was too cool.

We are on the Emerald now and they showed the Super Bowl in Explorer's, Casino and on MUTS but not in cabin as it was an extra $5,000 to get right to show in cabins

A couple years ago we were on for the awards and they had a party we went to, it sounded like fun, however for what ever reason they were not able to get it on the satellite. We were not overly disappointed, we were still on a cruise ship.

Great! Although I'm not sure I want to spend ++++hours on a cruise watching the Oscars. At home I DVR and motor through all the commercials. I love to watch even though I have not seen one of the movies nominated for best picture (but have heard that a couple of them might be showing on board)

I do on the ship what I do at home during the commercials: bathroom, snack, get other stuff done. The cruise ship environment will provide plenty of distractions, not only during the commercials but during the two hours or so it takes to hand out awards to all the nobody's (sound, editing, special effects, costume etc...), although I always get a laugh when two winners are on stage together and the second one can't make their speech because the "walk-away" music starts after the first person is done talking...

I got an email from Princess in advance of my cruise Feb 23. They mention that two of the movies they will be showing are Lincoln and Argo. Very excited as I haven't seen them yet.

Fingers crossed that we'll get a satellite signal on the way to Hawaii.:)

We haven't seen those either--I actually can't believe they have such new movies on board. Now my husband is hoping they will be showing Skyfall--but I have my doubts.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just back from our cruise tonight--and they did show the Oscars both on deck and in the stateroom. We watched most of it in the stateroom. Where commercials would be they just had a blank screen and some movie music.

I used those breaks to get ready for the evening. Unfortunately, I had to leave for entertainment we wanted to see just before they got to best actress, actor and picture. Never fear, I looked it up on the internet after we ate.

They did show 'Lincoln' and 'Argo' and quite a few other fairly new--in the last year or so--films, as well as a lot of classics, particularly Hawaii themed, as this was a cruise to Hawaii. They repeated quite a few of the movies, though; I'd have liked more variety.

I much prefer Celebrities tv system where you can start and stop the movies of your choice when you want. It was too cold to watch MUTS much.

No Skyfall, though!
