We've never done it that way. We pay the deposit at booking and then make the final payment a few weeks ahead of the final payment due date. But you should be able to do monthly payments...

In your case, you will still have to make the initial deposit at booking, which, depending on the suite and number of days could be $1500+. After that, if you have booked directly with NCL, you can access your account on NCL's site and make payments directly each month. If you use a TA, just ask them how they can accommodate monthly payments (whether via web or phone or mailing a check).

Hi we will be sailing March 7,2013 on the Sun.. we booked this cruise Feb.27 2012 cause we wanted the penthouse at the back of the ship.. I put the deposit down and pay each month or every other month and made our final payment in December.. NCL said it was ok to do this..

I just finished paying for our upcoming cruise. Paid deposit, then 3 later payments. Our Vacation Summary just showed what payments we had made and what was still due. They don't seem to care as long as it's all paid by the due date!

I always pay the deposit then payments throughout the wait time until final payment due. This does a few things for me... keeps my money in my pocket longer, allows me to get excited each time a make a payment and feel like my cruise was free as I have my cruise paid for, my daily charges, and purchase some OBC and casino credits. You just have to pay a minimum of $100 each time. I also do not pay the balance due until time so if the fare drops I can get the difference back.

Same here. We're using a TA and I just let him know when I want to make a payment and give him the card number to use. He sends us a new invoice each time showing the payments and remaining balance. It's going to be great leaving for the cruise and knowing everything is completely paid off.

I've always booked directly with NCL and they've always required full balance to be paid 75 days in advance of cruise (after making initial deposit when booking). Do they really allow you to make partial payments right up until cruise date if you book with them directly ? Do they give you your "cruise docs" prior to making final payment ?

Hand up! That's how I pay for mine. I'm 134 days out and have two more payments to make. Right on schedule.

Yes. They allow it. I've been doing that all along. I made the initial payment for mine about a year out from the cruise and then made payments monthly from then. You don't have to wait for the end.

You can make payments until the FINAL PAYMENT date. Which is 75 days from your cruise date. It must be paid-in-full by that date.

I believe, and as someone also said above, the minimum payment amount is $100.

I wonder if you misunderstood the question. The way the question was worded the poster thought if you booked directly with NCL you could make payments right up until cruise date (meaning, make payments right up until embarkation day). Which is not allowed.

I would say you read more into her question than was there and inferred the fact that she (and I) were not aware of the final payment date. There is NO indication that the OP wasn't aware of the date all payments have to be made by in her question but rather, like others commenting on this thread, was not sure whether or not partial payments before that date were allowed. And I certainly knew all of that already. But some people misread the information about final payment and think you HAVE to do it in two bulk payments, which isn't so.

In fact, you cannot be on MyNCL and NOT see the information about the date your final payment is due by, front and center. No matter whether you pay at the end or pay in increments, final payment MUST be made by the date they give you. Thankfully, I should have my final payment to them a month earlier than that date or more, but that's how I set a budget.

So you are making final payment 75 days prior to cruise date ? What do you mean by "end" ? Do you mean cruise date, or 75 days prior to cruise date ?

At the final date NCL gives you on your MyNCL. 75 days prior to cruise. Actually, I schedule that a little earlier to account for last-minute emergencies in the budget, but that's the accountant in me. ;) No matter whether you pay in bulk or pay in increments, you still have to make final payment by that date. You can't go over it just because you're making payments.

Actually, a friend is going to Europe with a group (air travel and group accommodations) in a few months and has the same rule for her trip. She just finished payments on the trip...75 days in advance of the date she leaves. Seems that travel companies like that timeline?

Thanks ! I was getting the impression from some of these posts that people are making payments right up to the cruise date. I'd love to do that (but that's just the cheapskate in me :D ).

I don't pay until the last possible second. I'd much rather have that money in my account, earning that swell one percent interest rate. You can create a dummy account, say "cruise fund" and put in a set amount each month. That way you still pay toward your cruise, but it's still your money until you submit final payment.

That is what I do too. I put money in our savings account for the cruise and keep track of it. Even though the interest is minimal, by the time final payment arrives the interest will pay for a drink aboard ship. :D

But even more important, If I have to cancel the cruise because of an emergency before final payment I don't have to wait for a refund. I have the money available right away.

That's exactly how I view it. It's not that I can earn a pittance by holding onto the money. It's having the money available to me for as long as possible just in case I need it for something else. This is my approach with any bills, not just cruising. I don't give anybody money before I have to. Holding onto it gives me much more flexibility.

That's the impression I got, that there was some confusion in the matter and DML initial response.

Judging by the response quoted above, there was still ambiguity and vagueness to be cleared up prior to your response. And as unintended as it was, your response extended that ambiguity. I was simply trying to verify the response and make things more clear.

There is no need to get defensive. Don't take it to heart. It's just the internet after all.

I'm all for planning ahead, but, where is the OP seeing cruises for Feb 2015? That is two years out, I've been on NCL's site and the furthest out I'm seeing is Sept 2014. (Too be fair, I have not looked at the sched for every ship they have).

I do like the idea of making "payments", I did not know about this. :D

Thank you everyone for your replies!! I am well aware that I need to have the final payment in 75 days before. This just seems the easiest way for us to pay it.. I understand some of you like to hold on to your money, but, with a Son in college, making payments is the best for us!!! Thanks again!!

This is the only way I can cruise.Hubby is on Social Security. I schedule my cruise and see what my final payment date is then I count the months and divide the payments up so they are affordable. I do get an email with all my payments each time. I have two more months to go.
