This made me laugh!!

I'm with you!! In addition to not booking any future cruises, I want compensation for those future cruises that I did not book because of how Carnival handled this incident.

Like Artic said, it's all about customer service! I prefer cash.

Good luck! What are you trying to prove? Carnival is not going away. You are posting that people are SOL...That's because you didn't get the answer you wanted to hear.

Just got off the phone with Carnival. I called inquiring about cancelling our two cruises that are fully paid for. Wanted to know what our options were.

Due to the Triumph issues I agree accidents happen, but DON"T agree with the way they handled it. They could of brought another ship out there to get the passangers off.

So I called to see what Carnivals attitude towards upcoming passengers. Its not good.

If you paid for your cruise they are NOT offering refunds. Its a Triumph issue not a Victory or a Liberty issue is there response.

I was told as far as compensation to future passengers, there has not been any brought out to this point.

So in a nutshell, if your unsure about the cruiseline or have concerns about the response, your SOL.

Im booked in two weeks on the Victory then right after on the Liberty. They don't care about loyalty, they just want the money!:(

I am still waiting for someone to suggest oars and in such situations everyone dons a viking hat and row to the beat of a drum.

You could only use those oars from the lower decks unless they had really long handles. I think it would have been better to use all those bed sheets and make a giant sail out of it and use the whale tail for the first rear propulsion sailing ship in history.

I personally do not want to cruise on Carnival right now. I'm ANGRY at the way they handled this situation, and I'm angry over their apparent lack of proper maintenance procedures. Gamble with my money in the casino, sure. Gamble with my health over your bottom line...heck no!

I am slowly losing faith in Carnival. Perhaps I'll stick to land vacations in the future and just arrive to the ports i wish to visit via air...at least the airlines are more regulated and I can check out their safety records for myself.

Last year (2012) while tendering in Belize, I sustained a "cruise injury". The seas were extremely rough getting back to the ship. We all had trouble even getting to the exit of the tender unto the ship. The two guys onboard the ship pulled me so hard that I had a problem the next day if I took a deep breath.

When I returned home 3 days later, I went to the chiropractor and xrays showed that I had 2 ribs slightly out of alignment.

It certainly was not the two CCL employees fault. They had to get me onto the ship, and the tender was bouncing up and down.

Thank you for sharing your experience AND your attitude about it!

There are many cruisers that feel the way you do.

If you really think about all the cruises, that sail all over the world week in and week out. The mechanical problems that result in a situation like this are pretty nil.

I don't know the exact odds but it is pretty slim that this would happen to any of us.

I do feel bad for the people on board the Triumph and that were on the Splendor.

I feel confident that my future cruises will not result in a ship dead in the water.

The US Coast Guard and the ship's classification society monitors maintenance. Anything mechanical can fail. When I was in the navy on a ship that was maintained in near perfect condition, things broke down on a regular basis.

I asked my brother, a former Navy Officer, what would have happened if this were a Navy ship, and he replied, without hesitation, another ship should have pulled up alongside and provided generator power to keep everything working, and another ship would have provided all the food supplies necessary to keep everyone happy.

Carnival is a HUGE corporation. If they are incapable of providing for the safety and comfort of passengers in an incident such as this which should have many contingencies already in place, then it should NOT BE IN BUSINESS.

If I sound angry, it is because this corporation WHICH ALSO OWNS COSTA is a blight on the entire industry.

The entire cruise industry is going to have to work to overcome this PR disaster

I doubt this is a PR disaster. In a week or two it will be completely forgotten by the media, just like the Costa Concordia was and bookings will return to normal. Happens everytime, even the school shooting in CT was old news after a week.

There is no comparing a Carnival "passenger" ship with a Navy "military" ship. The "should've", "could've", "would've" group just keeps growing.

I sort of doubt it as after the Concordia incident in which lives were lost - the number of cruise bookings did not drop.....so not sure how hard the cruise industry is going to have to "work to overcome" this latest scenario? Not saying that they did everything right.....just that maybe they tried to and it did not turn out so well?

I know that I would be very upset if the same had happened to me - but also know that all means of travel come with some level of responsibility and risk and I feel that we all know that going in....

Not trying to stir more "stuff" as those poor passengers onboard the Triumph have much more right to comment......just my two cents.

There are a couple of issues that could make this incident actually worse for cruise lines:

1) The duration of the coverage, the Triumph had coverage of what was first reported for several days (the worst stories). In contrast, the Concordia was a "quick" incident. We didn't watch live the ship sink and it didn't last several days.

2) The fact that it is the third incident reported in a relatively short period of time.

3) Ship carried a majority of Americans, left from the US, and returned to the US. A situation like that tends to hit closer to home.

Despite that, I wouldn't envision a significant long term loss of revenue.

I don't think a refund should be granted. However, I was wondering why didn't they deploy the lifeboats? Is it some reason they didn't?

If it was too rough to transfer passengers onto another ship, could you imagine how rough the sea would be in a life boat with a 100-150 other people and keeping track of 20 plus lifeboats?

The U.S. Coastguard on scene said it was too rough to transfer passengers.

As for bringing in another ship, it's not like they have a spare 600-800 million dollar ship sitting around for a spare waiting for something like this to happen.

I read a lot of incredibly ignorant statements in this thread. I was watching Juan Williams filling in for O'Reilly tonight. He had a lawyer and a former Carnival employee. He actually said he could not understand why Carnival didn't fly someone out to fix the ship. My God it took months of a large team on experts working 24/7 to get the Splendor back in service. Fly out someone to fix it????

I always thought he was a very sharp guy  now not so much

Oh Articcat you are soooooo off base.

This is one of the most inane threads I have ever read on this site and I have read a bunch....

YOU signed that contract and your time was up. Did you really expect to be let out of a contract because something happened on another ship? Think a minute how stupid this sounds?

Sure they will get their big shiny Mother Rescue ship that they just keep for emergencies somewhere convenient for diasable ship rescues....and send it... it can safely float people off of a drifting listing ship in moderate seas safely and bring those people back. Or gosh the Coastguard could pick up the lifeboats, they have 25 or so extra boats in the gulf to do that.... and really nothin else to do right?

This company has managed to get 3000 passengers and crew and ship to a port safe and sound, no one died. Sure they were inconvenienced. Yes the conditions were harrowing. Poop is so icky after all. They were fed and cared for and deleived safe to a place and compensated. The best was made of a terrible situation that has cost the company millions and likely many more. Was everything perfect heck no, but they did the best they could and kept everyone safe in a terrible situation.

I am guessing you have NEVER flown on an airline that has had a plane crash? You call in sick if you see an accident on the freeway too right? You want to return your car cause it has faulty parts... right you deserve a full refund so you can go buy another make?

People like you are the same ones that treat staff on a ship poorly, with your entitled, arrogant attitude. I paid for this so I deserve to be a condescending and rude. You are the ones we people having fun just roll our eyes at and wonder if you are such a miserable human being why come on a cruise?

Carnival had every right to refuse to refund your trip, but if you go they will treat you to a wonderful vacation and do their best to help you have a good time. Get over it. I would not though tell em what your post name is here... *grins*

Go and stop creating grief, or do not go and stay in your cave.

every cruise line would have done the same thing. the seas were rough what happened if anyone fell in, then what you would blame them again. i have never been on carnival but i think you should give up cruising because it can happen to any line in fact i know planes go down so why fly..

I'm starting to get nervous about flying now  THANKS GUYS!

With a 'broken' ship, I may be miserable, but I'll at least be alive. Not so much on a downed plane...

Has nothing to do with me....... I spent good money on two cruises back to back. If Carnival is a bad company for neglecting basic needs for people, then I have THE RIGHT to request a refund... This is 2012. There is other options to get that ship to a shore so passengers can transfer to another boat. It costs $$$$$ Thats what this is all about. So ya it does affect me, cause if it happens on either one of my cruises, you clowns will come back and say, you knew what you were getting into or it was your decision. Yes it is my decision, and if I lost confidence in the company thats my decision. Ya they won't refund my money..... Who cares. Thats a drop in the bucket. You pro Carnival lovers, they can do no wrong and heaven forbid a poster dosn't agree with you, you all gang up on him like a old boys club. You know what site this is? Cruise CRITIC. It means to criticise. That is what im doing. But you can't take ciriticism, so best you leave to another site...

This is so laughable it's almost not even funny!

Go ahead, sue Carnival for your RIGHT to cancel.
