We have small childern. Any good places to eat mexican food closer to the pier or at the mall?

There is a Poncho's right at the Pier but to us it's just not as good as the Original. :) Grab a cab have them drop you at Los Cinco Soles shop a bit and than go out to Ponchos and enjoy a great lunch. You can usually either grab a cab right out front if one happens to be passing by or drooping off if not just across the street is a cab stand. :) http://www.loscincosoles.com/

There are several places along the ocean drive between Punta Langosta and the Plaza. Just a the south end of the Plaza area on Calle 5/Rafael Melgar (about 1/2 way between the PL pier and the ferry pier) is La Mission with outside seating and strolling mariachis. There's a Carlos N Charlie's at the Mall--but not my ideal of Mexican food.

The OP is at Punta Langosta, the "downtown" pier not Puerta Maya, so they were asking about "the Original".

Ate at the original Pancho's behind the Cinco Soles at Calle 8 and had one of the best Mexican meals we have had in years! Altho only available on the dinner menu, we asked about mole, for which they are famous. They DID have some ready (about 1:30pm) and my husband just about licked the plate clean! It is a regional variety of mole, a bit sweeter than some recipes, and had toasted sesame seeds sprinked on top of the beef.

We also printed out free margarita coupons from the internet for each of us. Decor is peaceful and attractive in the midst of an often hectic San Miguel. If going to shop at Cinco Soles as well, eat first-the receipt from the food is good for a discount at the shop afterwards...so a good deal all around!

Cab from International pier-$8 and there is an interesting small local museum at Calle 6 and Melgar as well.
