The definitive Cheers program Thread

On this last cruise 8 25 16, I had something happen that was a shocker to me. I ran out of my 15 drinks and went to my cabin, but I was lil hungry so I ordered room service(philly steak) and I ordered a Beer to see if it would go thru and I got it.

So room service has no correlation to cheers? You can still order even if you finish your 15 drinks?

oh and no I didn't miscount, the bartender kept counting down to last 1.

Really? Right on.

Did Cheers on a cruise last week and made it worth the money even though my husband doesn't drink alcohol and I cannot drink 15 drinks a day. Good tips and a good bartender can make Cheers worth it no matter your situation. We had lots of bottled water and juice and I had a few $20 a drink choices.

So you were allowed to get alcoholic pins coladas and Miami vices and other frozen drinks with cheers?

Hi I last cruised in 2013, and I was curious if Cheers had changed at all since then.

(It looks like it has - it's cheaper to buy in advance...)

However, at that time, you could purchase the package on Day 2 of your week-long cruise.

Is this still the case?

Yes. On board you can still purchase the package on day 2 but it will cost you more, almost enough more to warrant pre-purchasing it and having it on day 1. It is $49.95 + 15% or $54.95 + 15% on board. It would cost you approximately $20 more to pre-purchase the package for 7 days with the gratuity. 7 days pre-purchased with 15% gratuity= $402.10 6 days on board $54.95 with 15% gratuity=$379.16 so a difference of $22.94

I drink Long Island Iced Tea's and I want to change up the liquors.

For instance, this is what I want:

swap the Beefeaters for Bombay Sapphire

swap the Sky Vodka for Grey Goose VX

swap the Bacardi Rum for Appleton Estates VX

swap the Hornitos Tequila for Patron Reposado

This would bring my drink up to $44.15, still under the new limit BUT will the bartenders actually make my drink like this and let it fall under Cheers?

You see, my thinking is that they may say that since I'm changing up the "original" spirits, it's no longer considered a Carnival Cocktail.

So, again, has anyone actually DONE this, or attempted?

Ok, so we're just back yesterday from our 8 day Conquest sailing from Ft. Lauderdale. I wanted to take the time to answer my own question.

I usually only drink at 2 bars: Alchemy Bar, and Casino Bar.

At the Casino Bar, I asked one of the bartenders (first time meeting him) if he could make me a L.I. iced tea with the Grey Goose VX, Appleton Estates VX, and the Hendricks Gin (forgot about the Patron). He said they're not supposed to but he'd do it that one time (first night). I wrote in a $2 tip on the receipt. EVERY TIME he saw me the rest of the cruise he'd shout out to me and waive. Needless to say, I had about 3-4 of those each night

A small tip goes a long way!

Funny how that works. Over a 7 day cruise I will tip my main Bartender an additional 50 to 100 extra.

Does Carnival offer fresh squeezed juice in the morning? I seem to remember it on a cruise I went on, but it may have been on Royal. I can't stand the powdered junk they pass for O.J. I am an O.J. snob, only Florida not from concentrate for me ato home.

I wish they sold Carnivals lido deck orange juice in a jug at my local grocery store.

Do you order the large format (1 liter and 1.5-liter) bottles of water in the main dining rooms from the waiter or from the bar? Is the water chilled? I know you are not supposed to share in the "Cheers" program, but has anyone ever ordered more than 1 bottle of water and shared with the others at the table in the MDR? Can you share a bottle of wine with other tablemates?

If you prepaid for the Cheers package, do you have to go to guest services to have a sticker put on your card or is any other place able to verify the purchase and add your sticker?

We have shared bottles of wine before. The bottles are not included with Cheers (though you get a discount) so no worries there about 'sharing'.

You can go to any bar to receive your Cheers sticker.

Sorry, can't answer all your water question. I drink what is on the table and take the bottle of water back to my cabin for the night. I don't think it was chilled. I don't remember who I asked for it though. :)

Under the cheers program the water included is the small bottle... If you order the big bottle, you will pay for it with a 25% discount, so then yes, you could share with the table, as you are paying for it with a discount.

According to the Carnival Website:

CHEERS! INCLUDES:

All spirits (including cocktails), as well as beer and wine by the glass with a $50.00 or lower menu price

Sodas, Zero-Proof frozen cocktails, energy drinks, specialty coffee, hot tea, 500ml bottled water and other non-alcoholic bottled beverages

Large format water bottles in the Dining Room and Specialty Restaurants

25% discount off the menu price for any spirit or wine by the glass above $50.00

25% discount off the menu price for wine and champagne by the bottle

25% discount off beverage seminars and classes

That leads me to believe that you can, in fact, buy the big bottles of water, but I assume that sharing those bottles is frowned upon.

The large bottles are INCLUDED with Cheers in the MDR and specialty dining. No where does it state there is a charge. Even at a discounted price in these locations.

I presume you can get wine by the glass from the bars on the ship!

Was thinking, if we were struggling to hit our 15 drink max, could get a few glasses of Shiraz and put it into a bottle at the room! :-)

You can walk around the ship with drinks cant you?

We could on NCL.

Yes you can get wine by the glass at the bars.

The 15 drink is a limit, not a challenge, there is no requirement to struggle to hit it every day. I'm not sure what the endgame would by with pouring glasses of wine into a bottle anyway, if you never hit your 15 drinks and poured a few extra glasses a day into a bottle, you'd just end the cruise with a few bottles of open wine.

Yes you can walk around the ship with drinks, though I believe it is frowned upon to take a 'glass' drink onto Lido, but you should be able to get a plastic cup instead.

What!

It's a challenge! :-)

Having a bottle in the room always comes in handy whilst getting ready for the night, or even taking it with us on port days!

Think I might take a funnel with me! :-)

Royal does offer fresh squeezed for an extra charge. Don't recall how much though.
