Taxi Tour La Harve to Honfleur

We will be arriving in La Harve in September on the Carnival Legend and have decided that it might be better to spend the day touring Honfleur and maybe some of the other neighboring towns in lieu of trying to get to Paris. Does anyone know how we can arrange this?

Thanks,

Teresa

Last year we took the local bus to Honfleur from the bus station in Le Havre. It is about a 20 minute walk from the cruise port location. There were two options for times to the village and several as well for the return journey. Very inexpensive and easy to find the terminal (very easy walk to/from the main village business areas). The correct timetables were available on-line for the bus vert company. As well, sent an inquiry to the customer service dept and they answered very quickly to confirm my choice of buses.

Another alternative is to taxi with another couple for the journey to and from the cruise port. They likely won't want to wait too long for you... that was our experience the first time... If you have a cell phone with a local SIM card you could confirm with the taxi company that you could call a return taxi... Others rent a car but parking on the street could be a challenge... didn't see much commercial parking available in the village. It is a charming place and a very nice day's tour. good luck with your planning.

You can certainly hire a taxi at the port...but expect to pay hundreds of Euros for a taxi for the entire day. You can also arrange for a private car/driver online...but again the cost is going to be in the hundreds of Euros. The local buses between LeHavre and Honfleur run on a horrible schedule (only a few buses per day) but you can do that if you plan your entire day around the bus schedule. Another option is to simply rent a car in LeHavre and drive yourself (this is a lot less costly then a taxi for the day). With a car you can easily expand your itinerary and enjoy some other places.

Check out:

http://www.radiotaxi-lehavre.com/

The first page in in French but if you click on the circle that says "taxi tour" you'll get to a page in both French and English.

For 4 people I find the prices reasonable.

We used them for a day in Giverny and Rouen a couple of years ago and feel that it was a very good day.

so the cost is for the taxi to take you to the destination for the duration as described. So for Honfluer it is 3 hours - assuming that includes the travel time each way, it doesn't appear you have much time at the destination?

Let me just give our capsule description of Honfleur. It is a small seaside village (population is about 8,000) with a delightful small harbor ringed with multiple cafes (indoor/outdoor). There are also a few churches, some shops, etc. It is a town you can cover on foot in about an hour. Add some time to go in the shops and perhaps look in a church and you might have spent 2 hours. Now, DW and I go to Honfleur whenever we are in that region of France (we do our share of driving trips as well as cruises) and we love strolling around the town for about an hour. But our main reason for visiting Honfleur is to have lunch in one of the harborside cafes where the moules et frites is among the best (when they are in season) on earth. That is why we recommend that folks wanting to visit Honfleur consider renting a car for the entire port day. You can then drive to Honfleur and also explore nearby Deauville. With a car you then have other options (we have driven all the way over the Fecamp and Etretat on the same day) and can just explore the countryside.
