St. Thomas Carnival this Month

The Islander

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Those cruising to St. Thomas on:

April 28th - might enjoy visiting the Carnival Food and Crafts Fair.

April 29th - Carnival Exhibit.

April 30th - the Childrens Parade.

May 1st - Adults Parade.

Charlotte Amalie's Main Street is closed for the Parades as that is the parade route. So anyone wanting to shop on those two days will need to stick to Havensight and come to town to enjoy the parade, music, bright custumes!!

Hello,

Just the four I mentioned are day time. There are two other day time things but they are boat races and crowning of Carnival queen and prince/princess. Everything else is at night.

Islander,

We will be there on the 28th. Where will the carnival craft and food fair be? Do you think I'd have enough time to go over to St. John's for a bit in the morning and come back and check out the fair? Thanks.

Hello,

Here is more on the Food Fair:
Cultural Food and Crafts Fair; join hundreds of Virgin Islanders in a great expo of local foods, drinks, deserts and crafts.

It takes place in Emancipation Park which is right next to Fort Christian in Charlotte Amalie - take a taxi from the dock and tell them you are going to the Food Fair at Emancipation Park. It should be about $3 a person for the taxi if you are docked at Havensight. Should your ship be an anchorage then your tender will bring you right to the Waterfront and you can walk to the Fair at the Park.

It starts at 8am with the opening ceremony. The highpoint is between 10am-noon, or the busiest time which is when you want to go or else there won't be any food or much left in the afternoon. So I would suggest going in the morning to the Food Fair (9 or 9:30 to 10:30am maybe) and then walking down the Waterfront to the St. John Ferry terminal in town, there is an 11am ferry from there. The Charlotte Amalie ferry takes 45 minutes and cost $7 a person one way. You can take the Red Hook ferry to come back or the CA ferry.
