NCL vs. CCL

Hi!

I'm still a cruising newby. We sailed on Carnival Conquest in January and loved it. Our group is looking at sailing again and we are looking at NCL on the Jewel I believe. We want to sail out of New Orleans.

Have any of you sailed on both? Are there any huge differences? The only think I've read is the dining is set up different? My fiance and I loved our dining experience on the Conquest and developed a fun relationship joking with our servers each night.

I'm afraid my fiance will want to base his decision solely on Guy's Burgers. HA!

Any tips are appreciated.

:)

I suggest using the forum search tool. This is a FAQ on this forum and there is plenty of historical info that you can mine.

Its basically the same. Yes, dining is a bit different, but I don't mind, in fact I prefer it.

Please do use the search function just at the top of the threads box, if you put in NCL vs CCL I'm sure you'll find more than enough comparisons.

Have a great trip, and give Freestyle a try, you can always go back to Carnival....;)

We have sailed Carnival 5x and NCL 2x...our next cruise is on CCL Freedom followed a short 2 months later by NCL Jewel (2nd cruises on each of these ships but different itineraries). Most rooms are smaller on NCL with the exception of suites. Everything else is subjective but her is my honest opinions:

Both lines are more alike than they are different.

Service: Similar. The best room steward we ever had was on CCL. The best waiter we ever had was on NCL. Having said that we have never had poor service on either.

Dress Code: Similar although it seemed a little more casual on our last NCL Epic cruise than any of our other cruises.

MDR Food: Similar but CCL has better Deserts: Freestyle is similar to Anytime on Carnival. Our only waits on both lines were on the Elegant/Dress Up or Not Night and for both it was only 15-20 minutes. NCL did give us free drink vouchers with our pager though.

Buffet Food: I give the edge to NCL

Other included Restaurants: Similar...we love Blue Lagoon just as much as we love Fish/Chips and the Deli on Carnival, we have yet to experience the 2.0 upgrades

Specialty Fee Restaurants: Similar but NCL gives you more options

Entertainment: Again I give the edge to NCL

Casino/Bingo: Similar although NCL's Bingo is more expensive

We have enjoyed our cruises on both lines and as you can see have no problem with traveling on both again:D. I can't wait to sail out of New Orleans as that is a new embarkation port for us as well as 3 out of the 4 itinerary stops being a new experience for us. Enjoy your cruise.

If you go back to the main NCL forum here:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=107

And put "CCL" into the search area...

you will get page after page of threads, many of which ask about the difference between CCL and NCL. You'll find way more information than we can type here

You da man sdmike. :-)
