Na Pali Coast?

Has anyone has done Na Pali coast and snorkel from the north shore instead of leaving out of Port Allen? Is it worth the drive from dock?

You should not go to kauai without driving up to the north shore, so I'd have to say YES :) Also, the boats leaving port allen spend around an hour just getting to the napali coast, whereas the north shore departures are closer, so you get to spend more time viewing the good scenery rather than the coastal towns on the west.

When are you going? I would only depend on this trip in the summer. In the winter it is often too rough. You can still drive to the north shore though. Lots to do and see there.

We are going in August. We will either do a sunset sail the first day(we don't arrive until 10:00am) and am helicopter 2nd day or afternoon helicopter 1st day and NaPali coast snorkel from North shore 2nd day. We will probably stick with the Port Allen sunset cruise (no snorkel) and helicopter 2nd day. We have never snorkeled before and already have Fair wind snorkel trip planned for Kona, so one will probably be enough. I mainly want to see NaPali coast-the pictures look gorgeous. After reading the "revealed" books, it makes sense to leave out of North shore and see more of the coast, but I guess we will save that for next time!

If you're strapped for time, take a helicopter tour out of Port Allen, then hop a tour boat with snorkelling on the south shore. Or just drive over to Poipu. If you've never snorkelled before I'd suggest finding a mask and snorkle and learn how in a pool before you go. I see a lot of people flopping around out there, struggling when they should be having fun out there with the fish. It's important to find a mask that fits your facial shape.
