Scott Cyn Posted June 11, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2005 I can pretty much figure it out, but I thought I would throw out the subject and see who wants to offer their thoughts. What does the Staff Captain do? I presume he manages all the non-ship personnel? Like the Cruise Director, Hotel Director, etc? Scott

idssms Posted June 11, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2005 He takes control of the entire ship if something happens to the Captain. In his regular job he is head of security and runs the bridge. He is NOT over the Chief Engineer and Hotel Manager. There are 3 Four Strippers on a ship and they all equal: Staff Captain Hotel Manager Chief Engineer The Hotel Mgr runs and is responsible for the entire business operations of the ship. The Captain and Staff Captain have no involvement with the P&L business (profit and loss)... Don
kitty9 Posted June 11, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 11, 2005 On some lines he's also referred to as the Vice Captain. There are two separate designations for officers on a cruise ship. You have the bridge officers who run the ship, and the hotel officers who run the hotel aspects of the ship such as food and beverage, rooms, public areas and the like. On some ships the Staff Captain is also in charge of discipline for all employees.
