Rare Coral Posted June 11, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2005 Did you get back today? I had some friends on your sailing - how was your weather? Did you get pretty close to College Fiords and GB? My friends are off to Victoria right now and I won't get to talk to them until later in the week. I am anxious to hear how their cruise went. Gator83 Posted June 11, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted June 11, 2005 We had perfect weather....no rain at all....70s while in the ports. It was a bit cold up on deck while going thru Glacier Bay and College Fjord. Yes, we got fairly close to both. It was a fabulous experience. I had a friend on the Coral and a friend on the Island this week. The friend from the Island just called me and they had great weather also! Glad you enjoyed your cruise! crusdiva Posted June 11, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 11, 2005 Gator83, Just found your review on the "other" board, I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for posting it. DH and I are sailing southbound in September and can't wait. It's our first Alaska cruise. Did you do any excursions? What would you recommend? Thanks. Gator83 Posted June 12, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted June 12, 2005 In Ketchikan I did a floatplane trip with Michelle from Island Wings. It was fabulous. Great scenery and she is a fantastic pilot. We stopped on a lake and were able to get out on land for about 15 minutes. In Juneau I did a whale watch with Captain Larry and that was great too. Took the $5 bus to Mendenhall Glacier and did that on our own. In Skagway we rented a car and drove the Yukon Highway. You can stop where ever you want and take as little or as much time as you want. I would recommend all three.
PKH Posted June 12, 2005 #8 Share Posted June 12, 2005 We're sailing to Alaska on the Coral Princess in July followed by the land tour. This is our first trip to Alaska and our second cruise on Princess. I was curious if anyone has taken the tour to the Artic circle from Fairbanks or if anyone has info to share. I have plenty more but don't want to bombard you with too many! Thanks, Joe Hi Joe, 1, The staff was fine...no problems at all. The cabin steward was very friendly and I had some great waiters in the dining room. The entertainment staff was fabulous. 2.Not very many children/teens at all. I would say less than 50, if even that many. 3. Yes, there is a children's area on the ship but I don't know if it got much use on our cruise. 4. what is a centrum? 5. I had a balcony on the Baja deck on the starboard side and it was very nice. The bathroom is quite small but there was plenty of space for two to put stuff. Lots of closet and shelf space. The balcony was not very big but big enough for two. The beds were a bit hard. 6. I did not go in the pools so I can't comment on that...sorry. 7.Most of the people were older....I would say that at least 85% were 60 and older. 8. On the ship we saw whales, otters, one puffin, birds, seals 9. The food was pretty good. Some nights were better than others but I didn't hear any complaints. King crab and lobster was my favorite. I also ate at the Bayou Cafe and thought it was VERY good. The desserts were good too. 10. I did not do the land tour. 11. I got on in Vancouver and off in Whittier. I hope this helps you! Cruiser_Guy Posted June 16, 2005 #12 Share Posted June 16, 2005 Thanks very much! BTW- The centrum is also known as the atrium. I hope you don't mind me asking a few more!! How was boarding in Vancouver? And how was leaving in Whittier? Did you fly out of ANC when you left? Did the captain or crew make any announcements about where you were, ect? How was the cruise director? Was there bingo? What were some of the activities? THANKS SO MUCH! And if all of this question-asking gets annoying, please, let me know, as sometimes I tend to go overboard!

crusdiva Posted June 16, 2005 #14 Share Posted June 16, 2005 also, is there a gym? What are the pool hours? Yes, the gym is part of the Lotus Spa. Princess pools are open 24/7.
Cruiser_Guy Posted June 16, 2005 #15 Share Posted June 16, 2005 Are princess pools really open 24/7?!?!? Thats awesome! On all of the cruises I have been on they always closed when it got dark. So now I can go for a midnight swim!
Gator83 Posted June 18, 2005 Author #16 Share Posted June 18, 2005 also, is there a gym? What are the pool hours? There was a pretty good gym on board and I think the pools are open 24 hours but I didn't use them.
