Not leaving ship while in port

Recommended Posts

If you are going to Belize you may also be going to Honduras. If I were going to pick a port to stay on the ship it would be Roatan. Both ports offer about the same, but Belize seems a little safer when it comes to the port area for shopping. We went to the Mayan ruins, it was ok but mowed up like a golf course. Would not do again. If you like to snorkel, Belize has they Great Barrier Reef. Check NCLs sight again, the excursions should be there.

Totally disagree here....belize is militant and we didnt like it at all. Didnt feel safe whatsoever. Roatan has a beautiful beach right near the ship and is probably our favorite port ever.

The only restriction (if you want to call it that) on staying on board is allowing

your cabin steward (CS) time to clean your cabin and make the beds. Just

check with him/her the day before to make the arrangements that will work

for the both of you.

Of course you can simply tell him to skip the cleaning and leave a do not

disturb in/on the door knob.

It is nice to arrange your activities around the time the CS does his routine

cleaning of all the cabins in his care.

So go away for a late breakfast-early brunch and come back and your cabin is

ready for another day of planning the next adventure.

Although it is a brief hassle to leave the ship by que the return trip is more

of an inconvenience with the security check for any contraband you may have

purchased from the natives. The advantage of getting off in each port is if

and when you make the trip again you are somewhat familiar with where

things are at - stores to shop - meals at restaurants - places to take great

photos - and shore excursions to take or not. If nothing interests me I just

walk a mile in the direction of activity and return.

When one of my trips ported at Astoria, Oregon I walked 3 some miles to the

edge of town and turn around and walked back marveling at the size of the

ship as I got closer and closer. Of course a lot has to do with the weather if

leaving the ship - a walk in the rain forest is nice but a walk in drenching rain

to just peak into what makes a city tick well not my cup of tea !

It seemed like a good idea at the time !

Take a guided tour (shore excursion) or make one of your own just remember

to get back on the ship on time !
