Venice: where to store luggage for the day?

Recommended Posts

My 2 sisters and I are booked to travel on the Grand on Aug 6. It is my first cruise and my first trip to Europe, but both of them have cruised before and travelled extensively in Europe. We are beginning to get very excited both about the cruise experience, and the opportunity to tour the ports.

We have one dilemna that I am hoping someone will help us out with. I have never seen Venice before and since we will be arriving early, we have decided to spend the day in Venice and travel late to Rome for our flight home the next day. After we disembark, what do we do with our luggage? We weren't sure if we would take the train from Venice or rent a car, but the train seems to be the easiest option except for the luggage issue. Does anyone know if Princess provides a luggage check service, or if something else is available?

I do know that there is a place to store luggage in Piazza Roma which is not very far from where you disembark. I wouldn't consider walking it with your luggage unless the luggage is easy to roll - it is a good 10 minute walk - but it is not far by taxi.

My wife and I are on the same cruise.

Have you checked into the rollcall thread for our cruise?

There might be a luggage storage facility in the train station. I think I read somewhere that they do. If so, when leaving the ship, take a water taxi or whatever to the train station and check your bags. We're are staying in Venice for three nights after the cruise and are taking the ship's transfer to the airport, storing our bags there, and then taking water transport back to Venice with just our carry-ons that will tide us over for the three days. That way we don't have to worry about moving about Venice with all our cruise luggage. We did the same last year.

As an alternative to checking your luggage in the train station, you might be able to check your bags at the dock for the day and return later to pick them up and then go to the train station for your trip to Rome.

Have you booked the ship's tours or are you taking any private tours. We're looking to possibly share a private tour in Monaco, Livorno and Athens, but having been to these places before, are looking to take some alternative itineraries. Thus, rather than going into Florence, we would like to visit some of the other towns such as Sienna and San Gimignano. In Athens we would like to go to the Peloppensian area of Mycenae, etc. rather than going into Athens itself.

We plan to leave our luggage at Piazzale Roma in their left luggage area and take the vaporetto from there. Here is some information for you about Piazzale Roma:

See http://www.vtp.it/pages/comeRaggiungerci/crociere.jsp?n=0

Piazzale Roma is the only part of the city of Venice that can be reached by car. It is an information point for public bus and vaporetti, there is a taxi station and guarded parking areas are available.

The cruise and ferry terminals can be reached by:

- Taxi cab (about 2 minutes trip) - cost about 10 EU

- Bus n. 6/ stopping just outside the entrance to the passenger port. On Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays, when ships are performing homeport operations, a free of charge shuttle bus to/from Piazzale Roma- Cruise Terminal is available every 15/20 minutes for cruise passengers.

Vaporetto (ACTV) Fares http://www.actv.it/english/home.php

If you purchase the 24 hr. transportation card - remember to validate your ticket before you take the ride. The fines are quite heavy.

After a cruise, where do we store our baggage for three days at Venice Airport? We seached the Venice Airport website for "baggage/luggage storage" and was unable to locate where the storage area is located.

Thanks.

NIZURC:

There is a left-luggage office on the lower level. When entering the airport from the car/bus drop off point, go downstairs. It's all the way to the left (when facing the airport from the street). There is a telephone number listed on the airport website at:

http://www.veniceairport.it/aeroporto.jhtml?view=numeriUtili&lan=en

Last year, I think the fee was 3.5 or 4 Euros per day per piece. The day is 24 hours from whenever you check your luggage in there.

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 1 month later...

I have a similar dilemma.

We arrive in Venice (1pm) on 8/18 for the start of our cruise. We want to maximize our time in Venice on that day so would rather not spend a few hours getting to the port and checking in and having to take the shuttle back over.

What can we do with our luggage???

Is it too far to drop it off at the left-luggage area in Piazzale Roma and then pick it up later in the evening to bring it to the port?

Thanks!!!

Thanks so much! I found the info that I needed.

Is taking a land taxi from Marco Polo to the cruise pier easy??? Just flag one down at the airport and direct them to the Marritima? Approximately 40-50 Euros? There are 4 of us with 4-5 pieces of luggage...will that all fit?

Thanks!
