bearbait Posted March 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2013 Don't worry about it. Those of us that live here aren't. It is what it is.
huskyguy Posted March 22, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2013 For those taking one of the Skagway excursions up to Carcross, it was -26F there this morning. Yes, MINUS 26 - a tad nippy for Spring, some said. :)
AKman2495 Posted March 22, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2013 You guys are apparently not familiar with that old song about Springtime in Alaska: I mushed from Point Barrow thru a bizzard of snow Been out prospectin' for two years or so Pulled into Fairbanks the city was a boom So I took a little stroll to the Red dog Saloon. As I walked in the door the music was clear The purtiest voice I had heard in two years The song she was singin' made a man's blood run cold When It's Springtime In Alaska, it's forty below. (When It's Springtime In Alaska, it's forty below.) It was Red-headed Lil who was singin' so sweet I reached down and took the snowpacks off my feet I reached for the gal who was singin' the tune We did the Eskimo Hop all around the saloon. With a Caribou Crawl and the Grizzly Bear Hug We did our dance on a Kodiak rug The song she kept singin' made a man's blood run cold When It's Springtime In Alaska, it's forty below. I was as innocent as I could be I didn't know Lil was big Ed's wife to be He took out his knife and he gave it a throw When It's Springtime In Alaska, I'll be six feet below. TAG: (When It's Springtime In Alaska, he'll be six feet below.)

tee_harbor Posted March 23, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2013 It's actually climate change, which this winter followed that pattern earlier, by having just endless days of rain instead of cold and snow. We need freezing and a snow layer for our yellow cedars to survive. Their deaths are our canaries in the coal mine. But onto something more important; your cruises! I still say most of the snow will be gone by the start of cruise season. Warmth...I can't make any promises. However, this cold snap's only been going on for a week or so. Unlikely to hold for another six. It's supposed to warm up this weekend...Look, it's 34 already!
dsrdsrdsr Posted March 23, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 23, 2013 Absolutely climate change. As we all know, until 1990 or so you could know exactly what the weather would be a year or more in advance. Now, the climate changes every year. ;) Global Warming ended a few years ago, when the experts realised they'd been wrong all down the line. Obviously they couldn't change their opinion, because that would put them out of a job, but they could change the name. We're having a cold snap in Britain at the moment too - this global warming is bringing low temperatures all over the Northern hemisphere. But don't worry, it has virtually no effect on the probability of good weather in 6 weeks' time. It just means there'll be more snow on the mountains.
