Langtoncouple Posted March 31, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2013 We are due to take a cruise on the Dream at the end of the month. One of the ports will be Ceuta which is an enclave of Spain near Morocco selling duty free and tax free goods. We look forward to this. However, the day we visit is a public holiday (Labour Day) and we are hoping that shops and businesses will not shut then. Can anyone advise us. Does everything shut in Spain on a public holiday? WeeCountyMan Posted March 31, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2013 Does everything shut in Spain on a public holiday? Pretty much in my experience - one long seista. However, you are not on the Spanish mainland, so local practice may vary, especially if tourism is the big income source.

Can anyone advise us. Does everything shut in Spain on a public holiday? Hi from a not so Sunny Spain! Until recently all shops here were shut on Public Holidays. Now though, due to the economic climate, most stay open. Most places (apart from small ´Convenience´ style stores) are still closed on Sundays though. SheilaA Posted April 2, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 2, 2013 Glad you brought this up Langtoncouple, as we are on the same cruise as you, and I was unaware of the public holiday!!
skioncruises Posted April 2, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 2, 2013 Thomsons love to keep this information to themselves. We have arrived in port on several occasions to find it is a public holiday and everything is closed - not even a bar open until after lunch time. If it is Gibraltar on a Sunday the shops are closed but the shopkeepers get wind of the fact that a ship has docked and quickly open. The one thing they want to know is when the ship will be departing.
