Pam in CA Posted April 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Is it possible to cash a check on a Princess cruise and, if so, is there a fee?No. Nor can you use a debit card to get cash. They will cash a traveler's check, though. I bring a few $50's with me as they take up little space/weight and put them in a secure pocket/pouch for travel, in my safe on the ship. If I need cash, I go to the Passenger Services Desk and get change. I haven't bought traveler's checks in years and even AAA had a big problem when I tried to use them to pay for something. Loonbeam Posted April 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Traveler's checks, yes. I do not believe they accept personal checks.
lets_go Posted April 9, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Hi, on my cruise 2011 I have cashed in traveller cheques. They didn' t charge any fees. I believe the days of traveller cheque will be soon over. I am not sure,if you still can buy traveller cheques? I have heard that debit cards should replace them. Happy travels. Rare nunuc2000 Posted April 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Traveler's checks, yes. I do not believe they accept personal checks. While the passenger services desk will not allow "cash for a debit card", there is an ATM in the casino that you can use to withdraw US cash with your debit card. But be warned... the fee is steep... usually between $6 and $8 per withdrawal! Celine

FritzG Posted April 9, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Our bank still offers travelers' checks for no fee so we use them on cruises only. We don't like to carry a lot of cash when we are in port pre-cruise so they are an ideal solution. Once we get on board we put them in the safe and cash what we need when we get to ports. We use a credit card a lot, but there are some places where we'd rather use cash. They're also a good back-up in case you lose your wallet and/or credit cards. We still have some left from our Emerald TA last fall, and when we come back from Hawaii we'll just redeposit them in the bank.
