On Board Shop Duty Free

Quick questions aligned to some questions that are on the Thomson's forum

1) (Dream/Celebration) Is the Island Escape now operating the same policy of checking bags as you come back on-board and removing any alcohol purchases from ashore and returning these at the end of your cruise?

2) (As Above) Are purchases from the shop (alcohol) now being stored until the last night of your cruise

(Based upon the other Forum) Thomson really don't get the customer happy customer may return bit do they??

Hi, We cruised on the 26th March 2013 and was surprised to find there was no alcohol or cigarettes for sale in the shops. They did however, sell packs of 20 cigarettes at the bars,at duty free prices on the day at sea. Also bags were scanned each time we returned to the ship.

Which countries did you visit? The ship would need to visit a non EU country to be able to sell duty free on it's cruise.

Just looked, as you only visited Majorca, Corsica, Italy, France & Spain, all EU countries, then the duty free would not be open. If you want cheap drink or cigarettes, you need to pick an itinery that vists non EU countries like Gibralter or Tunisia.

Hi Soda Fountain,

Many thanks for explaining why there was no duty free (alcohol and cigarettes ) available in the on board shop. I responded to the earlier post thinking it might help other cruisers, to know that they would be able to buy cigarettes at a reduced price on the day at sea. As a non-smoker and a lightweight with alcohol, I personally, was unaffected by the lack of these in the on board shop.
