Jewel April 8th out of Tampa

Recommended Posts

Our first time on RCCL.

Usually go HAL but their service declined to the point of non-existent.

So we're off to try something else.

A quick review.

Check in: Took about 5 minutes. Wonderful.

The ship: Very nice. Sort of old school and beautifully maintained.

The Cabin: GS 1032. Nice and Big. Long balcony. Lots of storage space.

Bars: All over the place with great service.

Concierge Lounge: Wonderful. The free evening bar service saved me a ton of $$$$.

Concierge: He was fantastic.

Room Steward: Everything you could ask for.

Casino: Nice room and good dealers. Luck wasn't good or bad.

Pools: Same comment as everybody else. Finding a chair is hard.

So far so good. But, you know it's coming:

FOOD

Chops for breakfast: Served the worst eggs Benedict ever. Overcooked eggs and everything on the plate cold. Not even room temp. At 8:30 in the am there was only one other couple in the place. Should have been a tip off I guess.

Chops for Dinner: Certainly not worth $30 a head extra. Filet was good but not great. Veggies are served family style??? You're kidding.

MDR: Slow service. Slow enough the manager noticed it without us saying a word. Promised to improve it. It wasn't. Food itself uninspiring and quality so-so.

Portofino: Had the veal. 2 thick cut slabs. Not pounded out. Tough as hell. covered by some brown goopy sauce. Horrid.

Passengers: MY fellow pax were an awesome bunch. didn't meet a singe bad one.

Summary: I won't be back. The food thing killed it

Awww, sorry to hear this. Tell me, did you go to the Windjammer buffet at all? You didn't mention it. When we sailed Jewel a few months ago, the WJ was the best we've ever encountered on all our cruises. Absolutely fantastic!!
