Eurodam Cabin -- Verandah choices

I feel like this question had to have been asked before, but I could not find it ...

I want to book three Ocean View Verandah Staterooms on the Eurodam for my family. I can't seem to figure out what some of the codes mean .. they all start with V (that part I understand!) ... but then I don't understand the rest... VF, VC, VB, VA. Those letters do correspond to the deck they are located, but don't seem to make sense (VF is on the Upper Promenade Deck, VC is on the Verandah Deck, etc.).

Is this too technical of a question?? I'm a bit lost and want to have an idea of what I am booking. Thank you in advance!

Basically, the letters after the "V" are an indication of the quality of the cabin (mostly location), decided by some mysterious person who thinks being in a certain place/on a certain deck is better than another option.

VA is the highest, down to VQ (I see now they have ordinary "V" cabins, so maybe those are "better" than VAs). From what I understand, VFs have solid steel below the railing on the verandah, so you can't see out when you're seated. We never book less than a VD when we book a balcony so we get a clear verandah wall. On the Eurodam, there's also the VT cabin, which has only a Juliet balcony--you can step out on it, but not sit. They also are not covered.

They will be reclassifying cabins on the Eurodam after March 29, 2014, so make sure you're looking at the deck plans for the date you'll be sailing.

If you would like to see pics of HAL ship cabins and balconies to get an idea of what the configurations, sizes, and amenities are for the various classes of cabins, go to Joanie's website. It is http://abqreunion2008.com/ and is reference here on CC HAL forum in the stickies. She has a huge collection of member pictures and even written descriptions for particular cabins. :)

It's all about location. The V designates Veranda. V alone would be the most desirable locations, thus the higher price.

The higher the letter following V indicates a lower deck or further forward or aft.

Not quite.

On the Eurodam VQ is the top category according to HAL because they are "spa" cabins which add a few small amenities. From there down they are ranked V, VA, VB, VC, VD, VE, VT, VF, VH.

The biggest difference (besides location) is the size of the balcony. The VQ, VE, and deck 5 VF have just 4 ft deep balconies. The V have 7 ft ones and the VA to VC 6 ft. The deck 4 VD and VF have 7.5 ft deep balconies, but as mentioned above those VF are ranked lower because of the steel-wall railings.

Personally I think the plain V are best because of the good size balcony and a large overhang from the Lido deck which gives more shade. Some people will tell you that the V below the Lido pool deck area are undesirable because of noise of deck chairs being moved around occasionally. We had one on the Nieuw Amsterdam and very little noise except for about 90 minutes the night of the Chocolate Extravaganza up there!

I, and many others, think the VT should be ranked at the bottom because of the Juliette balconies, but HAL thinks they are better because of the high location.

Very good information, thank you. For a while now I have needed this info clarified too. Glad you explained it so well.

After the re-designation of all cabins scheduled for 3/30/2014, the ten VT cabins will still be called that ... but I hope they move them down the price scale to at least below VF so that someone can book a VF guarantee and not get stuck with a VT! I doubt that they would be put below VH because that is their entry "bait" level for verandas.
